The Dundalk Leisurecraft Canadian Timber 3-4 Person Avalon Outdoor Traditional Sauna is an outdoor sauna handcrafted in Canada from Eastern White Cedar, with a three-tier bench inside. Heat rises, so the top bench is the hottest seat and each lower tier runs gentler for an easier session. The walls are 2-3/4 in. double-groove cedar logs that hold heat well. A black standing seam metal roof reaches past the 8 ft by 8 ft cabin for a 10 ft by 10 ft footprint. It seats three to four people, and the heater is a separate purchase: a wood-burning stove or the recommended 9 kW electric unit.

The front of the cabin is a large bronze tempered glass window, so daylight fills the room and the outdoor view stays in front of you on the bench. The glass door can be hung on the left or the right side during assembly to suit the path you walk in on. The kit arrives as pre-cut components, and Leisurecraft backs the sauna with a 5-year residential limited warranty.

How it works

A three-tier bench
On the Avalon the three tiers step up toward the ceiling, and each one sits in a hotter layer of the room. Sit on the upper tier for the fullest heat and the most intense session, the middle tier for a moderate one, or the lower tier to ease in and cool down.

Before the first session

Building the Avalon

The Avalon goes up on a solid, level base with a slight slope to the back for drainage. Build the base larger than the sauna and you gain a sitting area to cool off between rounds.

After each session

Looking after the cedar

Open the door after each session to let air move through, wipe moisture off the surfaces with a dry towel, and leave the benches uncovered to dry. Over time the interior cedar can darken or vary in color, which is normal for the wood.

  • Clean with warm water and a mild soap on a soft cloth
  • Sand rough spots with fine-grit sandpaper
  • Keep paint, varnish and conventional stain off the interior
  • Outside, a penetrating cedar finish keeps the original color

It takes either a wood-burning heater or an electric heater, and 9 kW is the recommended electric size for its 325 cu ft room.
The Avalon ships as a pre-cut Eastern White Cedar kit: the bottom frame, the log walls, the three-tier bench, the bronze tempered glass window and door, and the black standing seam metal roof panels with their steel trim. A hole saw for assembly is included too.
You need a level base to build on, the heater of your choice, and a qualified electrician for any electrical connection.

Yes. The Avalon goes together with hand tools and a cordless driver: a level, a hammer, a rubber mallet, a tape measure, metal snips, a step ladder, #2 Robertson bits, a 1/4 in. socket and a 1/8 in. drill bit, with the hole saw supplied in the kit.
Leisurecraft covers the sauna for 5 years against defects in materials and workmanship under normal residential use. The warranty provides replacement parts only, without service, labor or installation costs, and a replacement part does not extend the term. Electrical connections have to be made by a licensed electrician to keep the warranty in force.
Yes. The Avalon is built for year-round outdoor use, Canadian winters included. Clear snow from the roof, keep the entrance clear and the vents unblocked, and let the room dry out after each session.
