The Homecraft Apex Electric 10/12/15/18kW 240V/208V Sauna Heater Package is a sauna heater package for large rooms: the heater, a touchpad control, a matched contactor box and ten boxes of sauna stones. The Apex is an 18 in. round stainless tower, 36 in. tall, for rooms from 400 to 1,150 cu ft. It comes in three sizes on 240V single-phase and three on 208V three-phase, from 10 to 18 kW. It holds up to 325 lbs of rock around a protected element air chamber, so each pour of water meets a large mass of hot stone.

The touchpad handles temperature, on and off and the session timer, and the WiFi touchpad puts the same controls in a phone app. Each contactor box is matched to the wattage and voltage you pick, in an indoor build or a weatherproof one for an outdoor sauna. The Apex is made in Canada and approved to CSA and UL standards. On three-phase power, every size also needs a floor plate and a ceiling heat shield, which are not part of the package.

How it works

The Apex drives its heat into the rock from an 18 in. round tower that keeps the elements shielded.

Protected element air chamber
Heat is directed into the rock mass while a protected air chamber shields the heating elements. That gives even heat through a large room.

On 240V single-phase the Apex covers rooms up to 950 cu ft, so a large home sauna does not need three-phase power. Three-phase stretches it to 1,150 cu ft.

Frequently asked questions

The Apex electric sauna heater, a regular or WiFi touchpad control, a Homecraft contactor box matched to your wattage and voltage, ten boxes of Homecraft olivine sauna stones, and the installation and operation manual. The floor plate, the ceiling heat shield and the installation trim kit are separate accessories.
The 10 kW heats rooms of 400 to 575 cu ft, the 12 kW 450 to 750 cu ft, the 15 kW 600 to 950 cu ft, and the 18 kW 690 to 1,150 cu ft. Multiply the room's length, width and height in feet to get its volume.
The 10 kW draws 41.6 A on a 50 amp breaker with 8 AWG wire. The 12 kW draws 50 A on a 70 amp breaker and the 15 kW 62.5 A on an 80 amp breaker, both with 6 AWG wire. A licensed electrician hardwires the heater and wires in its high limit manual reset switch.
The 12 kW draws 33.4 A on a 50 amp breaker, the 15 kW 41.7 A on a 60 amp breaker and the 18 kW 48 A on a 60 amp breaker, all with 6 gauge copper wire, and the same high limit switch is wired in.
Choose the indoor contactor when the box will be mounted in a dry, protected space. Choose the outdoor (weatherproof) contactor for an exposed or damp spot, such as on an outdoor or barrel sauna.
The WiFi touchpad adds control from a phone app, so you can start pre-heating before you get home. The regular touchpad runs the same temperature, on and off and timer functions from the wall.
It is 18 in. across and 36 in. tall, with 5.5 in. to combustible surfaces, at least 48 in. to the ceiling and a ceiling height of 7 ft or more. On 208V three-phase a ceiling heat shield and a floor plate are required for every size, and the floor has to carry up to 325 lbs of rock.
Igneous sauna stones 3 to 6 in. across, up to 325 lbs, and the package includes ten boxes of Homecraft olivine stones.
Homecraft backs the heater with a 2-year warranty for residential use and 1 year for commercial use, on heaters used according to the manual. Heating elements count as consumable parts and are not covered, and neither is normal wear, careless damage, incorrect installation or tampering.
