Kyota | Hatsumei M900 AI 4D
The Kyota Hatsumei M900 AI 4D is a massage chair whose four rollers ride an L-Track 44 in. long, an L-shaped rail from your neck to your glutes. Body scanning checks the shape of your back first, so the rollers set themselves to you. 4D means those rollers also press in and out and change speed. Air compression comes from 56 air cells inside 28 airbags, which squeeze and release. Twenty programs sit on a touch screen controller. It weighs 249 lbs. and fits users 4 ft 8 in. to 6 ft 2 in. Dark Brown and Gray/Tan are the two colours, and the user limit is 300 lbs.
The AI Custom Massage Generator is what separates the Hatsumei from its siblings. Twenty choreographed programs come ready to run, and the generator builds one more from settings you pick yourself, then holds it in memory for recall at a button. Kyota's own name for the scanning behind it is patented AI TrueFit body scanning, and it tunes the roller positions to the back it has just measured. Double shiatsu rollers sit under each foot, which means a rolling, pressing stroke, and Kyota calls the pair Double Roller Foot Reflexology. Calf kneading with oscillation and compression runs in the wells above them, and a heat module warms the lumbar panel. Across the front the chair stands 32 in. wide and 47 in. tall, the seat is 17.5 in. deep, and Zero Wall Fit slides the seat forward as the backrest lowers so it can sit close to a wall.
Under the upholstery
The rail and the mechanism decide where the rollers travel. The scanning, the programming and the air system decide what happens once they get there.
The list
Both colourways carry the same equipment and the same figures. Dark Brown and Gray/Tan are one chair in two coverings.
Detail
The track on this model measures 44 in. and is built as an L, so the rollers hold contact around the bend beneath the seat. Four rollers sit on the head. Depth comes from the arms extending and retracting through the pass, which is what the 4D in the model name refers to. Coverage over a program takes in the neck and shoulders, the back, the arms, the calves and the feet, and the TrueFit footrest extension slides out to suit leg length.
Air is how the chair reaches the parts of you the rollers never touch, and the Hatsumei carries 56 cells in 28 separate airbags. Setting the shoulder pair fixes the width at the top of the backrest before you begin, which counts for something on a chair rated from 4 ft 8 in. upward. Below the knee the work becomes cyclical compression and mechanical oscillating rubbing in the calf wells.
The rated user range starts at 4 ft 8 in. and runs to 6 ft 2 in., with a 300 lbs. maximum. Seat depth is 17.5 in., hip width 21 in. and shoulder width 21.5 in. Upright the chair is 32 in. across the front and 47 in. tall, and the side measurement drops to 33 in. once it reclines. Allow 74 in. of length either way, because the reclined figure of 64 in. is the shorter of the two.
Compare
The Hatsumei and the Yutaka are measured tracks of 44 in. and 49 in., each with one 4D back mechanism on it. The Kizuna takes another route entirely, with two mechanisms working the backrest in a 174.6 lb. frame.
