NOHRD Luxury Indoor Exercise Bike V2

The NOHRD Bike V2 is a wooden-framed indoor cycle that runs on a planetary gear and an eddy current brake, with a 5.5 kg flywheel driven at a ratio of 1:8. Resistance is continuously adjustable on a dial at the front right of the frame, so the rider moves through the range by turning the dial and never steps between numbered levels. The bike measures 117 x 113 x 60 cm, weighs 60 kg (132 lb) and stands on less than a square meter of floor. Maximum user weight is 200 kg (441 lb).

The console is a touchscreen set into the handlebar itself. It pairs over Bluetooth and works with NOHRD Connect, the NOHrD training app, as well as ZWIFT, BKOOL and Rouvy for virtual rides and structured sessions. The NOHRD Bike app is not currently compatible with the Samsung S10 and S20. A power connection is supported at the console, and the standard models can also run from a USB power bank if the bike is going somewhere without a socket in reach.

The handlebar is shaped to give more than one hand position, an upright hold and a lower forward-leaning hold, and the saddle sits on a universal bracket with 30 degrees of saddle angle available. NOHrD builds the frame in Germany in six finishes, Shadow, Oak, Vintage, Club, Cherry and Walnut, and oils the wood components against dirt and stains. Delivery is two packages and the bike is assembled on site.

Drivetrain

Resistance With Nothing Touching the Flywheel

Nothing on this bike rubs against the flywheel to slow it down. An eddy current brake works magnetically across a gap, and a planetary gear sits between the cranks and the 5.5 kg wheel, which is the combination behind the dial on the front right of the frame.

01

The Brake Never Touches the Wheel

An eddy current brake slows the flywheel magnetically, without a pad or a belt contacting it anywhere. There is no friction surface to wear down, nothing to re-tension after a hard winter of riding, and no felt pad to replace as a consumable. Resistance is continuously adjustable through the dial at the front right of the frame, so you turn into more load and turn back out of it in a single movement mid-ride. Riders coming from a friction bike notice that a continuous dial has no numbered steps to hunt between.

Wear-free braking

02

A 5.5 kg Flywheel Geared 1:8

The flywheel weighs 5.5 kg and sits behind a planetary gear running a drive ratio of 1:8. The gearing is what lets a light wheel behave like a heavy one, because the wheel is spinning several times faster than the cranks that drive it. The practical result is a bike that keeps turning smoothly through the dead spot at the top and bottom of each pedal stroke. Both NOHrD bikes share the same 5.5 kg wheel and the same 1:8 ratio.

03

The Screen Is Part of the Handlebar

The touchscreen is embedded in the handlebar itself, not on a post clamped in front of it, so there is no bracket to knock loose and nothing extra sitting above the bars. It connects over Bluetooth to NOHRD Connect, the NOHrD training app, and to ZWIFT, BKOOL and Rouvy for virtual routes and structured sessions. One current exception is worth knowing before you order: the NOHRD Bike app is not compatible with the Samsung S10 and S20. Everything on the screen sits within reach of both hand positions on the bar.

04

Mains or a USB Power Bank

The V2 supports a power connection at the console, and the standard models can also run from a USB power bank. That second option decides where the bike can live, because a wooden indoor cycle often ends up in a bedroom, a conservatory or a garden room with no socket on the right wall. Check the outlet position before delivery and order the power bank if there is not one within a cable's reach. The Bike Pro takes a different line and requires a power connection.

Ownership

Putting 60 kg of Bike in a Room

Sixty kilograms of frame, two packages and a socket within reach are what the delivery actually involves. The eight figures below are the ones that decide the room, the rider and the aftercare.

01

60 kg on the floor

132 lb of bike, which is a two-person lift up a flight of stairs and a stable ride once it is down.

02

Less than 1 sq m

117 x 113 x 60 cm on the floor, so the V2 fits a bedroom corner or a clinic waiting area.

03

200 kg maximum user

441 lb, one of the highest user ratings in the NOHrD range and the same figure the Bike Pro carries.

04

Two packages

The V2 arrives in two boxes and is assembled on site. The Bike Pro ships in three.

05

Six wood finishes

Shadow, Oak, Vintage, Club, Cherry and Walnut, cheapest to dearest in that order.

06

30 degrees of saddle angle

The saddle sits on a universal bracket, which is what lets a Brooks leather saddle or a comfort saddle go on in its place.

07

Power at the console

A power connection is supported, and a USB power bank covers a room without a socket in reach.

08

One year, two on registration

NOHrD covers the bike for one year from shipment, moving to two years on components and wood if you register inside the first year.

Contact points

Two Hand Positions on One Bar

The handlebar is shaped to be held in more than one way: upright with the hands on top for a steady spin, and lower and further forward for a harder effort out of the saddle. The touchscreen is built into the bar between them, so the readout stays in the same place whichever hold you are using. The saddle mounts on a universal bracket with 30 degrees of saddle angle available, and that standard bracket is why the Brooks leather saddle and the comfort saddle can be fitted in place of the original. A saddle mount XL extends the range of positions further back for a taller rider.

  • Touchscreen embedded in the handlebar

The wood

Six Finishes on a Frame You Leave Out

The whole argument for a wooden indoor cycle is that it stays in the room it is used in, so the finish is the decision the buyer spends the longest on. Shadow is the black-stained entry finish and reads as a dark silhouette against a pale wall. Oak is deep golden-brown with a smooth, even grain and sits one step up from Shadow on the ladder. Vintage is a real wood veneer carrying an aged character finish, and Club sits beside it through the middle of the ladder at the same price on almost every NOHrD piece. Cherry runs from light yellow to reddish brown and suits a lighter interior; Walnut is dark brown with a lively grain and closes the ladder as the dearest of the six. NOHrD oils the wood components against dirt and stains.

The apps

Four Apps Reach the Handlebar Screen

NOHRD Connect is the NOHrD training app, carrying exercise video for the bike and for the rest of the range, so one app covers a room with a bike and a cable machine in it. Beyond that, the V2 talks to ZWIFT, BKOOL and Rouvy over Bluetooth, which is where virtual courses, group rides and structured interval sessions come from. The screen is part of the handlebar, so a phone or tablet running a third-party app adds to the console without replacing it. One compatibility note applies at the time of writing: the NOHRD Bike app does not currently work with the Samsung S10 and S20.

  • NOHRD Connect covers the whole NOHrD range
  • ZWIFT, BKOOL and Rouvy over Bluetooth
  • Touchscreen embedded in the handlebar
  • Samsung S10 and S20 are not supported by the NOHRD Bike app

The range

Two NOHrD Bikes Split by Length and Console

Length and console separate the two bikes NOHrD currently builds. They share the 5.5 kg flywheel, the 1:8 drive ratio, the eddy current brake and the 200 kg user rating, so the choice is a 36 cm difference in frame length, the console and the number of crates.

Questions

Setting Up a Bike V2 at Home

Through a planetary gear and an eddy current brake, adjusted continuously on a dial at the front right of the frame. The brake works magnetically across a gap, so nothing contacts the flywheel and nothing wears out with use. Because the adjustment is continuous, you turn into the load you want during a ride without clicking between numbered levels.

5.5 kg, driven at a ratio of 1:8. That gearing is what makes a relatively light wheel ride smoothly, because it turns much faster than the cranks and carries the pedal stroke through the dead spot at the top and the bottom. The Bike Pro uses the same 5.5 kg wheel at the same ratio.

200 kg, which is 441 lb. It is the same rating on both NOHrD bikes and one of the highest in the range. The bike's own weight is a separate figure at 60 kg (132 lb).

A power connection is supported at the console, and the standard models can also run from a USB power bank. If the bike is going into a room with no socket on the right wall, the power bank is the answer to that. The Bike Pro is different on this point and requires a power connection.

117 x 113 x 60 cm, which is under a square meter of floor. Allow a little room behind and to the side for getting on and off, and remember that at 60 kg this is a bike you place once rather than move between rooms. The Bike Pro is 36 cm longer in the frame at 153 cm.

NOHRD Connect, ZWIFT, BKOOL and Rouvy, over Bluetooth. NOHRD Connect is NOHrD's own training app and carries exercise video across the whole range of machines; the other three are virtual riding and structured training platforms. One exception applies: the NOHRD Bike app is not currently compatible with the Samsung S10 and S20.

Six: Shadow, Oak, Vintage, Club, Cherry and Walnut, priced cheapest to dearest in that order. Shadow is stained black, Oak is the golden-brown grain, Vintage is a real wood veneer with an aged character finish, Club prices level with Vintage in the middle of the ladder, Cherry runs light yellow to reddish brown, and Walnut is the dark grain at the top of the ladder. The wood components are oiled against dirt and stains.

Yes. The saddle sits on a universal bracket with 30 degrees of saddle angle, which is what lets the Brooks leather saddle or the comfort saddle go on in place of the original. The saddle mount XL moves the saddle further back for a taller rider, and a seat back is available for upright riding.

No. The V2 ships in two packages and is assembled where it will be ridden. Sixty kilograms is a two-person lift once it is together, so build it in the room it is going to live in. The Bike Pro ships in three packages.

Frame length, console and crate count. The V2 is 117 cm long, 60 kg, two packages, with a touchscreen set into the handlebar and the option of a USB power bank. The Bike Pro is 153 cm long, 62 kg, three packages, with a touchscreen built into the bike, a seat height range of 90 to 112 cm and a power connection required. Flywheel, drive ratio, brake type and the 200 kg user rating are identical.

The saddle line, a bottle holder, a seat back and toe clips with straps. Read the toe clip page before you add it to the order, because the clips do not fit the built-in hybrid pedals and need separate platform pedals to work.

One year from the date of first shipment, covering repair or replacement of a defective component. Registering the bike within the first year of purchase takes that to two years on all components and two years on all wooden components, and spare parts carry ninety days. The cover reads the same for private and commercial use.
