Heated Eye & Temple Massager

Therabody SmartGoggles Heated Eye & Temple Massager (2nd Gen)

SmartGoggles are a rigid, foldable housing you put on with your eyes shut. Inside, three things happen at once on the forehead, eyebrows and temples: compression massage, heat, and vibration. A session runs 15 minutes or less, and the second-generation shell blocks 100% of light while it does.

A built-in biometric sensor reads your pulse, and Therabody uses that reading to vary the vibration pattern during a treatment. Three preset treatments sit on top of that, with temperature and intensity adjustable in the Therabody app. The goggles weigh 13.7 oz (390 g), hold 180 minutes of battery, charge over USB-C, and Therabody lists them as FDA Registered with a 1-year limited warranty.

Features

Three Therapies, One Housing

The goggles work a narrow band of the head: forehead, eyebrow line, temples. Everything in the shell points at that band, and all of it runs inside a single 15-minute session.

🤲
Compression massage
Inflating pads press and release across the forehead and temples. This is the therapy you feel most, and it is the one a static heated mask cannot do.
Forehead, brows, temples
🔥
Gentle heat
Heat runs through the inner liner during a treatment, and the temperature is adjustable within each preset. Therabody publishes no degree figure for this product, so this page quotes none.
Adjustable temperature
〰️
Vibration massage
Vibration works alongside the compression at the temples. Intensity is adjustable. Therabody publishes no vibration frequency, so no Hz figure appears here.

💓
Treatments personalized to your heart rate.
A biometric sensor built into the goggles reads your pulse and varies the vibration pattern from that reading during the treatment. It is the feature that separates these from a plain heated eye mask.

The second generation

100% blackout. Unmatched comfort.

The changes in this generation are physical: a lighter shell, a blackout seal, cushioning that clears the eyeball, and a strap that curves around the ears.

Inside the SmartGoggles

Treatments

Your recovery, your way with 3 customizable treatments.

Three presets ship on the device, and each one is a different mix of compression, heat and vibration. Within a preset you can move the temperature and the intensity to where you want them, so the same routine can be firm one evening and barely there the next. Therabody does not publish a count of intensity steps, so none is given here.

  • 3 easy-to-use preset treatments
  • Customizable temperatures within each preset
  • Customizable intensity levels within each preset
  • Compression massage, heat and vibration on the forehead, eyebrows and temples
  • 15 minutes or less per session

Fit

Blackout, With Room to Blink

The first-generation goggles were heavier and let light in at the nose. This shell blocks 100% of it, which is what makes a session at two in the afternoon feel the same as one at ten at night. The cushioning around the eye socket is contoured so the eye has clearance: you can open and move your eyes inside the goggles with nothing resting on them.

  • Blackout design blocks 100% of light
  • Contoured cushioning keeps pressure off the eyes
  • Ergonomic adjustable strap curving around the ears
  • Lighter than the first generation

The details

Specifications and What’s Included

180 minutes of battery against a 15-minute session is twelve full treatments between charges. The goggles fold for packing and the pouch doubles as a laundry bag for the fabric parts. One thing to know before it arrives: the shell is not waterproof and not machine washable, so it gets wiped clean with a cloth.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The three are compression massage, heat and vibration, all applied to the forehead, eyebrows and temples. The 15-minute figure is the session length: a full treatment runs 15 minutes or less. The word “science-backed” in Therabody’s copy refers to its own reported study, which is covered in the next answer.
Therabody reports a 6-week SleepScore Labs study with 20 subjects, in which 82% reported feeling less stressed, 71% experienced lower levels of anxiety, and participants recorded a 19% improvement in feelings of relaxation and a 15% increase in sleepiness right before bedtime. Those are self-reported outcomes from a study of 20 people, reported by the manufacturer. Twenty subjects is a very small group, and we present the numbers as exactly what they are: a manufacturer-reported trial on twenty people.
Therabody publishes no temperature for the SmartGoggles — no figure in Celsius or Fahrenheit appears on its product page. We are not going to convert or estimate one. What is stated is that heat is included in the treatments and that the temperature is adjustable within each preset.
A sensor built into the goggles reads your pulse while you wear them, and the treatment varies its vibration pattern from that reading. Therabody does not publish the sensor type or its accuracy, so this page describes what it measures and leaves it there.
Three presets, each with customizable temperature and intensity. Therabody gives no count of intensity steps or temperature steps, so no such number appears here. Gallery graphics for this product have named modes that Therabody’s current page no longer lists, and we have left those names out for that reason.
Therabody publishes a 100% blackout figure for the second-generation shell. That is the headline change from the first generation, along with the lower weight.
No. The cushioning around each eye is contoured to leave clearance, so you can blink and move your eyes freely during a session. The compression works on the forehead and temples.
180 minutes. Against a 15-minute session that is twelve full treatments per charge. Charging is over USB-C, and Therabody publishes no charge time.
4 in x 7.8 in x 3.7 in (104 mm x 200 mm x 94 mm), weighing 13.7 oz (390 g). The housing folds, which is what makes that footprint packable.
Housing: (PC+ABS) + (PC) + PVC + Sofa Fabric. Strap: knitted cotton fabric, polyester and nylon. Inner liner: Thermal PU — the liner is the layer the heat comes through.
The SmartGoggles 2nd Gen device, a USB-C charging cable and adapter, and a laundry / travel pouch. One caution: the retail specification block for this product also lists a RecoveryPulse Arm, which does not appear in Therabody’s own box contents. Treat that line as unconfirmed and check before ordering if a bundled sleeve is the reason you are buying.
Wipe the inner fabric with a non-abrasive, lint-free cloth, or a cloth dampened with a 75% alcohol disinfectant — damp, not wet, with no liquid dripping when the cloth is squeezed. Makeup marks such as mascara or foundation come off with an eye and lip makeup remover. Dry with a clean lint-free cloth afterwards. The goggles are not waterproof and not machine washable, so keep liquid out of the housing.
Control and customisation of the treatments — you set the preferences there, then close your eyes. The app also carries a free library of sound therapy audio and guided routines. Therabody lists the app as required for full functionality, so the goggles are worth less to you if you would rather not install it.
It describes Therabody’s internal product-validation process, and it is the company’s own account of its own work, with no third-party certification behind it. The single regulatory fact attached to this device is that Therabody calls it an FDA-registered medical device.
No. Therabody states FDA Registered for the SmartGoggles. Registration means the device and its maker are listed with the FDA; it is not an FDA review of effectiveness, and it is a different status from the FDA Cleared wording that appears on some other Therabody products.
