Bear Cub Kids Mattress

The Bear Cub is an 8.5-inch hybrid mattress built specifically for kids, hypoallergenic and fiberglass free. It is a true hybrid, with foam over a wrapped coil core. A quilted Tencel® cover sits on top, hypoallergenic and cooling. Cooling gel memory foam and a transition foam sit under it. A 6-inch core of individually wrapped coils carries the load. Firmness lands in the medium-firm band. The Cub comes in Twin and Full, in Arctic Blue or Salmon. It is GREENGUARD Gold Certified, CertiPUR-US foam and fiberglass-free. Bear ships the Cub free, with a 120-night home trial behind it.

The cover is hypoallergenic, and the cooling Tencel® fibers are knitted through the quilting. Tencel is a sustainably sourced fabric known for breathability and for wicking moisture away from the surface, which counts for kids who run warm or sweat through the night. Below the cover, cooling gel memory foam contours to a child's body for a comfy hug while the gel beads pull heat away from the surface. The coil unit runs edge to edge beneath the foam, and the wrapped construction holds its shape through the years a child grows into it.

Two sizes cover most kids' rooms: Twin for younger children and for bunk or daybed frames, Full for kids who sprawl or want a bed to grow into. The side trim comes in Arctic Blue or Salmon to match the rest of the room. The Cub carries the same limited lifetime warranty Bear puts behind its adult mattresses. Cooling Gel Memory Foam + Transition Foam

Two foam layers sit between the cover and the coil core. A cooling gel memory foam contours to a kid's body for a soft, cradling feel while gel beads draw heat away from the contact zones. Below it, a transition foam layer dampens motion from the coil core below, and that counts when kids are jumping or shifting positions through the night. Together they cushion the surface without trapping heat the way plain memory foam does.

Sizing, materials and washing, for a bed a child sleeps in nightly.

The Bear Cub measures 6.8 out of 10 on the firmness scale, medium-firm. The 6" individually wrapped coil core provides deep compression support while the cooling gel memory foam top layer adds the contouring comfort kids need. Medium-firm sits in the middle of Bear's range, firm enough that the coils carry the load and soft enough that the top layer still contours for kids who switch sleep positions through the night.
The material list breaks down in three parts. Fiberglass:The Cub is 100% fiberglass-free. Bear quilts a fabric fire barrier directly into the panels, and there is no fiberglass sock anywhere in the build. Chemicals:GREENGUARD Gold Certified for low chemical emissions. The foams are CertiPUR-US® certified, verified free of formaldehyde, ozone depleters, prohibited phthalates, mercury, lead, and other heavy metals. Allergens:The Tencel® cover is hypoallergenic.
The Cub is purpose-built for kids, with a Tencel® hypoallergenic cover (vs. Bear Original's Celliant® infrared cover), a shorter 8.5" profile (vs. 10" for the Original), color options for kids' rooms, and a slightly firmer feel. Choose the Cub if: you want a kid-specific mattress with the hypoallergenic cover and color options. Choose the Bear Original Twin if: you want the Celliant® cover, the all-foam contouring feel, and don't need the hypoallergenic cover or color trim. Both are GREENGUARD Gold certified and fiberglass-free.
The Cub uses foams that have little to no smell. If anything, you may notice a very slight scent when first unpacking, comparable to a fresh pair of sneakers, that dissipates within a couple of days. The GREENGUARD Gold certification independently verifies low chemical emissions and minimal off-gassing. Those limits cover total VOCs as well as individual compounds.
Same mattress construction in both colors, and the only difference is the side trim color. Arctic Blue is a soft sky-blue accent. Salmon is a warm pink-orange accent. Pick whichever fits the room. Both ship in the same Twin or Full sizes at the same price.
The Cub works on any standard kids' bed frame: platform beds, slatted frames with slats less than 5.5 inches apart, daybeds, bunk beds (top and bottom), and traditional foundations. It works on adjustable bases too. The Cub ships as a mattress only, so you will need a frame or foundation already in the room. Not compatible: traditional coil box springs (no even support distribution) and frames with widely spaced slats. The Cub stands 8.5" tall, so check that height against the maximum mattress thickness your bunk frame states before ordering.
The Cub is built around a real 6-inch wrapped coil core, and that core determines long-term durability. The structural support holds up through years of nightly use. Most kids will use the Cub through their growing years and move to a larger mattress at teen height; the Cub is not for a sleeper who has already reached adult height. Backed by the Bear Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship.
The trial runs 120 nights of in-home use, with a 30-night break-in period before a return can start, standard for foam mattresses, which feel different in the first couple weeks while the body adjusts. Between night 30 and night 120, email returns@bearmattress.com and Bear will arrange a free pickup and refund you in full. Past 120 nights, the limited lifetime warranty takes over.
Bear mattresses are assembled in the USA from foreign and domestic components, at Bear's facility in Arizona. The Cub is GREENGUARD Gold Certified for low chemical emissions, uses CertiPUR-US® certified foam, has a hypoallergenic Tencel® cover, and meets federal mattress flammability regulations (16 CFR 1633 and 1632) without using fiberglass.
