Bear Trundle Mattress

A 5-inch low-profile mattress made specifically for trundle beds.

The Bear Trundle is purpose-built for one job: fitting under a parent bed and rolling out to provide a real night's sleep. Most mattresses don't work in trundle beds — they're too tall, too heavy, or designed for everyday use rather than the unique constraints of pull-out applications. The Bear Trundle is 5 inches tall in standard Twin size (38" W × 75" L × 5" H), which means it actually clears the rails of most trundle bed frames and slides smoothly on rollers without binding.

The construction is simple by design. A soft, breathable hypoallergenic knit cover sits at the top, followed by a cooling gel memory foam comfort layer that contours to the body and pulls heat away from the surface. Below that, a high-density support foam base provides the structural stability that keeps the mattress flat over years of use — even under the irregular load patterns common to guest beds and growing sleepers.

Best for trundle beds in kids' rooms, guest rooms, and overnight-ready setups. Same Bear quality standards as the rest of the lineup — fiberglass-free, GREENGUARD Gold Certified, CertiPUR-US foam, made in the USA. Free shipping. 120-night home trial. Limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

The Trundle Build

Three layers, engineered for low-profile sleep.

A trundle mattress has different requirements than a primary bed — it has to fit a tight clearance, hold up under irregular use patterns, and still feel like a real mattress when guests need a real night's sleep.

❄️
Cooling Gel Memory Foam
The top comfort layer is a cooling gel memory foam — contours to the body for a comfy hug while gel beads draw heat away from the surface. The result is the cradling feel of memory foam without the heat retention that traditional memory foam is known for. Combined with the breathable cover above, the surface stays cool through the night.

High-Density Support Foam
High-density support foam at the base — the layer that determines whether a low-profile mattress holds up over years. In a 5-inch mattress, the base foam carries most of the structural load, so density matters more here than in a thicker mattress. Bear's high-density support foam provides long-lasting durability and supports growing sleepers as they age up.

Hypoallergenic Knit Cover
Soft, breathable hypoallergenic knit fabric. Different from the Celliant® infrared covers used across the rest of Bear's lineup — chosen here for the breathability and hypoallergenic properties most valuable in kids' rooms and guest beds. Helps ensure a sweat-free night's sleep regardless of room temperature.

What This Mattress Actually Does

Inside the Build

Three layers, top to bottom.

Simpler construction than Bear's primary mattresses — designed specifically for the constraints of trundle bed use.

🌬️ Layer One

Hypoallergenic Knit Cover

Soft, breathable hypoallergenic knit fabric forms the cover. Different from the Celliant® infrared covers used elsewhere in the Bear lineup — chosen here for breathability and hypoallergenic properties most relevant in kids' rooms and guest beds, where allergen exposure and sweat-through are common concerns.

  • Hypoallergenic knit fabric — minimizes allergen exposure
  • Breathable surface — helps ensure a sweat-free night's sleep
  • Soft to the touch — appropriate for kids and adult guests

❄️ Layer Two

Cooling Gel Memory Foam

The top comfort layer. Memory foam contours to the body for a cradling, contouring hug while gel beads embedded in the foam draw heat away from the surface. The result: the soft, body-shaping feel of memory foam without the trapped-heat penalty traditional memory foam is known for — important in a trundle bed that may sit unused for periods and warm up quickly when in use.

  • Memory foam contouring — soft, body-shaping feel
  • Gel-infused for active heat dispersion
  • Reduces heat retention typical of low-end memory foam

🏗️ Layer Three

High-Density Support Foam

The base layer. In a 5-inch mattress, the base foam carries most of the structural load — there's not much above it to absorb compression. Bear specs high-density support foam here to keep the mattress flat over years of use, including the irregular load patterns common to guest beds and growing kids who use the trundle as their primary sleep surface for a few years before transitioning to a full-size mattress.

  • High-density support foam — primary structural load-bearer
  • Long-lasting durability under irregular guest-use patterns
  • Supports growing sleepers as they age up

Dimensions & Delivery

Standard Twin trundle size — 5 inches tall.

The Bear Trundle ships in one size only: standard Twin (38" W × 75" L × 5" H), which fits the vast majority of trundle bed frames on the market. Free shipping included from Bear's Arizona facility.

Twin Trundle
38" W × 75" L × 5" H
Standard trundle Twin size — fits most trundle beds. Note this is 5 inches shorter than the standard Bear Twin (which is 80" L). Trundle frames are typically built around the shorter 75" length.

Before ordering, measure your trundle bed clearance. The Bear Trundle's 5" profile clears most standard trundle frames, but some older or low-clearance designs may require a thinner mattress. Measure interior height with rollers extended to confirm fit.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Answers to what most buyers ask before ordering the Bear Trundle.

The Bear Trundle is 38" W × 75" L × 5" H — the standard sizing for trundle bed mattresses, which fits the vast majority of trundle frames. Before ordering, measure the interior clearance of your trundle bed with the rollers extended (the height available between the platform and the underside of the parent bed when the trundle is tucked in). If your clearance is at least 5", the Bear Trundle should fit. Older trundle frames or low-clearance designs may require a thinner mattress.
Trundle bed frames are typically built around 75" length, not the 80" standard for primary Twin mattresses. This is the historical sizing for trundle and daybed applications. If you have a frame that requires 80" length, the Bear Trundle won't fit — you'd need a standard Twin mattress or Twin XL instead.
Yes — Bear specifically designed the high-density support foam in the Trundle to support growing sleepers as they age up. It's a viable option for a kid's primary mattress for several years, particularly when the bed frame is a trundle or daybed-style design that requires the lower profile. For a child sleeping on the trundle every night for many years, you may eventually want to transition to a thicker primary mattress (the Bear Cub or a standard Twin Bear Original) — but the Bear Trundle holds up well for ongoing use.
No — the Bear Trundle uses a hypoallergenic knit fabric cover instead of the Celliant® infrared cover used on Bear's primary mattress lineup. Bear chose the hypoallergenic approach for trundle and guest bed applications because allergen exposure and breathability tend to be higher priorities than the recovery-focused infrared technology used on primary mattresses. If the Celliant® cover is important to you, look at the Bear Cub kids mattress or the standard Twin Bear Original.
The Bear Trundle works on the platform of any standard trundle bed frame — solid wood, slatted, or rolling-platform designs. It also works as a guest mattress on the floor for occasional use, on a daybed frame, or on any flat sturdy surface. Like all Bear mattresses, avoid traditional coil box springs (no even support distribution) and frames with widely spaced slats.
120 nights of in-home use. Bear requires a 30-night break-in period before initiating a return — standard for foam mattresses, which feel different in the first couple weeks while the body adjusts and the foam fully decompresses. After night 30 and before night 120, email returns@bearmattress.com to start a return. Bear arranges pickup at no cost and issues a full refund. Past 120 nights, the limited lifetime warranty kicks in for manufacturing defects.
Bear mattresses are assembled in the USA from foreign and domestic components, at Bear's facility in Arizona. The Trundle is GREENGUARD Gold Certified for low chemical emissions, uses CertiPUR-US® certified foam (verified free of formaldehyde, ozone depleters, prohibited phthalates, mercury, lead, and other heavy metals), and meets federal mattress flammability regulations (16 CFR 1633 and 1632) without using fiberglass.
