Bear Trundle Mattress

The Bear Trundle is a 5-inch low-profile mattress made specifically for trundle beds. It has to fit under a parent bed and roll out for a real night's sleep. Most mattresses are too tall or too heavy for that job. The Bear Trundle ships in standard Twin only, at 38" W x 75" L x 5" H. That profile clears the rails of most trundle frames, and it slides on the rollers without binding. It suits kids' rooms, guest rooms and daybed setups. Bear builds it in its Arizona factory and ships it free.

The construction is simple by design: a soft, breathable hypoallergenic knit cover sits at the top, followed by a cooling gel memory foam comfort layer that contours to the body and moves heat off the sleeping surface. Below that, a high-density support foam base provides the structural stability that keeps the mattress flat over years of use, even under the irregular load patterns common to guest beds and growing sleepers.

The Trundle Build

Three layers built for a tight clearance.

A trundle mattress has different requirements than a primary bed: it has to fit a tight clearance, hold up under irregular use patterns, and still feel like a real mattress when guests need a real night's sleep.

The top comfort layer is a cooling gel memory foam. It contours to the body while gel beads carry heat out of the comfort layer. The result is the cradling feel of memory foam without the heat retention that traditional memory foam is known for. Combined with the breathable cover above, the surface stays cool through the night.

High-Density Support Foam
High-density support foam sits at the base, the layer that determines whether a low-profile mattress holds up over years. In a 5-inch mattress, the base foam carries most of the structural load, so density matters more here than in a thicker mattress. The Trundle's base is dense enough to stay flat under years of nightly use.

Clearance, length and what a trundle mattress is for.

The Bear Trundle is 38" W x 75" L x 5" H, the standard sizing for trundle bed mattresses, and it fits the vast majority of trundle frames. Before ordering, measure the interior clearance of your trundle bed with the rollers extended (the height available between the platform and the underside of the parent bed when the trundle is tucked in). If your clearance is at least 5", the Bear Trundle should fit. Older trundle frames or low-clearance designs may require a thinner mattress.
Trundle bed frames are built around 75" length, not the 80" standard for primary Twin mattresses. Trundle and daybed applications have used that sizing historically. If you have a frame that requires 80" length, the Bear Trundle won't fit, and a standard Twin mattress or Twin XL is the one to order.
The Trundle uses high-density support foam, so it holds its shape under nightly use as well as occasional guest use. The low-profile build exists to clear a trundle or daybed frame, and that constraint sets how much material sits above the base foam. The Trundle is not for an adult who wants a full-time primary mattress, because a low-profile build leaves little material above the base foam. For a child's everyday bed, the Bear Cub is the mattress Bear builds for that job, a kid-sized hybrid with a wrapped coil core underneath.
No. The Bear Trundle cover is a hypoallergenic knit fabric, while Bear's primary mattress lineup uses the Celliant® infrared cover. Bear chose the knit for trundle and guest bed applications because allergen exposure and breathability matter more there. If you want the Celliant® cover, look at the standard Twin Bear Original.
The Bear Trundle works on the platform of any standard trundle bed frame, whether that is solid wood, slatted or a rolling platform. The mattress ships on its own, so you need a trundle frame, a daybed platform or another flat sturdy surface already in place. It also works as a guest mattress on the floor for occasional use. As with every Bear mattress, skip traditional coil box springs, which don't distribute support evenly, and frames with widely spaced slats.
The Bear Trundle comes with 120 nights of in-home use. Bear requires a 30-night break-in period before any return can start, which is normal for a foam mattress. The feel changes over the first couple of weeks as the foam finishes decompressing. After night 30 and before night 120, email returns@bearmattress.com to start a return. Bear arranges pickup at no cost and issues a full refund. Past 120 nights, the limited lifetime warranty kicks in for manufacturing defects.
Bear assembles its mattresses in the USA from foreign and domestic components at its Arizona facility. The Trundle is GREENGUARD Gold Certified for low chemical emissions, uses CertiPUR-US® certified foam (verified free of formaldehyde, ozone depleters, prohibited phthalates, mercury, lead, and other heavy metals), and meets federal mattress flammability regulations (16 CFR 1633 and 1632) without using fiberglass.
