InBody Dial H30 Smart Body Composition Scale

The InBody Dial H30 Smart Body Composition Scale is a bathroom scale that reads nine named values from one barefoot test, passing a small painless current through you and measuring the resistance. Four are primary: Weight, Body Fat percentage, BMI and Skeletal Muscle Mass, the muscle attached to your skeleton. Five more sit on the advanced output list: Body Fat Mass, Soft Lean Mass, Waist-Hip Ratio, InBody Score and Cellular Integrity. Visceral fat level, the deep fat inside the abdomen, comes off this scale too. The H30 returns two more values than the seven on the dearer InBody Dial H40.

Twenty is the other number that decides this purchase. The H30 recognizes up to 20 users on its own and files each person's results under their own profile in the InBody App. Five people in a household, or fifteen in a training group, can share one scale and never sort the readings out afterwards. The method behind it is Direct Segmental Multi-Frequency Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis, or DSM-BIA, which means each arm, each leg and the trunk is measured on its own. It runs across 8-Point Tactile Electrodes at triple frequency, with four contacts under your feet and four more taking your hands. Body water balance comes off this model as well. Finished readings leave over Bluetooth 5.0 or Wi-Fi app sync without you touching your phone. The Dial H30 comes in White and in Black.

One scale, a whole household

How it works

The Dial H30 recognizes up to twenty users on its own and returns nine named outputs, and the numbers are worth the most when the test is taken the same way every week.

Up to 20 auto-recognized users
A shared scale has one job a personal one does not: work out whose reading this is. The Dial H30 recognizes up to 20 people by itself, which is what auto-recognized describes. Every recognized person carries a separate profile in the InBody App, so a family of five builds five unbroken histories on one device and a training group of fifteen builds fifteen. Nobody signs in at the moment of the test, and nobody goes back a week later to reassign a stray reading.
20 user ceiling
The values across two lists
The result splits into a primary list and an advanced one. Primary reads Weight, Skeletal Muscle Mass, Body Fat percentage and BMI. Advanced reads Body Fat Mass, Soft Lean Mass, Waist-Hip Ratio, BMI, InBody Score and Cellular Integrity. BMI appears on both lists, so the count of distinct named values is nine. Visceral fat level and body water balance come off this model as well. Weight is the one figure on those lists an ordinary bathroom scale will also give you.
4 primary, 5 more
InBody score and cellular integrity
Two entries on the advanced list carry InBody's own names. InBody Score comes back as a single figure alongside the individual measurements. Cellular Integrity, shortened to CID, is the newest name on the list. Both arrive in the InBody App with the rest of the reading and both build a history the same way the others do. What either figure represents for you personally is a question for InBody or for your own practitioner, and it is worth asking before you build a number into the way you track yourself.
Advanced outputs
Getting the same answer twice
A body composition figure earns its keep next to the last one you took, so the conditions around the test matter as much as the electrodes under your feet. Weigh in at the same time of day, usually the morning before you eat or drink. Step onto the scale with dry bare feet, take the hand contacts with dry hands, and hold still with your arms clear of your sides until the reading finishes. A large meal, a litre of water or a hard session all move the water your body is carrying, and an impedance measurement reads straight through that water.
Same time, same way

Advanced values the dearer Dial leaves out

Body Fat Mass, Soft Lean Mass, Waist-Hip Ratio, InBody Score and Cellular Integrity all sit on the InBody Dial H30's advanced output list. None of those five comes back from the InBody Dial H40. Read the two result lists side by side and the cheaper scale returns more named values, which is an unusual thing for the junior model in a range to do. What the H40 keeps to itself is Leg Muscle Analysis, a reading for one region of the body. So the choice between the two Dials comes down to breadth against limb-level detail, and the order of the prices will not settle it for you.

  • Advanced list: Body Fat Mass, Soft Lean Mass, Waist-Hip Ratio, BMI, InBody Score, Cellular Integrity
  • Primary list: Weight, Skeletal Muscle Mass, Body Fat percentage, BMI
  • Nine distinct named values, since BMI appears on both lists
  • Visceral fat level and body water balance appear on this model's output list
  • Every value here is a measured or calculated output, and reading meaning into one is work for a qualified professional

Separate histories on one scale

Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi app sync are both built into the Dial H30, and the scale recognizes up to 20 users on its own. Put those two facts together and the shape of the product in a real house appears. One scale by the shower, twenty records building quietly in the InBody App, and nobody holding a phone at the moment they step on. The two connection routes lead to the same place, and neither asks for a manual export after the test. The InBody Dial H30 comes in White and in Black, and both colours carry the same electrodes and the same nine outputs.

  • Bluetooth 5.0 for the phone in the room
  • Wi-Fi app sync into the InBody App, supported for United States users
  • Up to 20 auto-recognized users, each with their own profile and history
  • 8-Point Tactile Electrodes running DSM-BIA at triple frequency
  • White and Black, both stocked here

Compare

How it compares

The H20N, the Dial H30 and the Dial H40 are InBody's scales for a bathroom floor, and each returns its own list of values. The H30 returns nine and the H40 seven, so the order of the prices does not follow the length of the list.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Nine named values from a single test. Primary outputs are Weight, Skeletal Muscle Mass, Body Fat percentage and BMI. Advanced outputs are Body Fat Mass, Soft Lean Mass, Waist-Hip Ratio, BMI, InBody Score and Cellular Integrity. BMI appears on both lists, so the count of distinct values is nine. The H30 also returns visceral fat level and body water balance.
Cellular Integrity, shortened to CID, is the newest entry on the advanced output list. It comes back as a figure with the rest of the reading and syncs to the InBody App alongside them. Ask InBody or your own practitioner what the number represents before you make it part of how you track yourself.
On the two output lists, yes. The H30 names nine values and the InBody Dial H40 names seven. The five the H30 keeps to itself are Body Fat Mass, Soft Lean Mass, Waist-Hip Ratio, InBody Score and Cellular Integrity. The one the H40 keeps to itself is Leg Muscle Analysis, a value for one region of the body. Breadth sits on the cheaper Dial and limb-level detail sits on the dearer one.
Up to 20 auto-recognized users, each with a separate history in the InBody App. Twenty is the user ceiling on the H30, and it is the figure to check if more than a couple of people will be stepping on it.
A bioelectrical impedance scale reads how the body resists a small alternating current, and the frequency of that current changes what the current passes through on its way. Reading at three frequencies gives the scale three sets of impedance data to work from. The Dial H30 is a triple-frequency device, and its full method name is Direct Segmental Multi-Frequency Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis with 8-Point Tactile Electrodes.
Same scale, same time of day, same state. Morning, before you eat or drink, is the usual choice. Step on with dry bare feet, take the hand contacts with dry hands, and stand still with your arms clear of your sides until the reading finishes. A large meal, a litre of water or a hard training session all change the water your body is carrying, and an impedance reading passes through that water.
Four contacts sit under your feet and four more take your hands, which is what 8-Point Tactile Electrodes describes. Contacts at both ends of the body put your arms and trunk inside the measured path as well as your legs. A scale with contacts only in its platform sends the current down one leg and up the other.
Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi app sync, both into the InBody App, which is supported for United States users. Neither route asks you to press anything after the test, and each result is filed with its date under the profile the scale recognized.
The InBody Dial H30 comes in White and Black. The same electrodes, the same nine outputs and the same twenty user ceiling sit underneath both.
Treat them as two separate measurements and track yourself on one of them. A professional analyzer such as the InBody 380 or InBody 580 reads at named frequencies in kHz. That is the speed the current alternates at. It measures five body segments and prints a result sheet at the machine. The Dial H30 is a home scale with its own electrode arrangement and its own output list. Compare a Dial H30 reading against your earlier Dial H30 readings, taken the same way.
It reports values and stores them so you can watch them move over months. What any one of them means for you is a conversation with a qualified professional who knows your circumstances. Nothing here interprets a number on your behalf.

"Great scale. In body scan is very touchy, as is known about this technology and shared in other reviews. Not a replacement for a real scan at your gym or Dr, but great for general trend tracking at home."
