The InBody H20N Smart Weight Analyzer Scale is the entry point to InBody at home, and it is built around an 8-point measurement system with patented thumb electrodes on a lift-up hand grip. Four contacts sit under your feet and four more take your hands, so a reading passes through your arms and trunk as well as your legs. Every home scale on the market weighs you. The hand grip is what puts the top half of your body inside the measured circuit, and it is the one piece of hardware worth checking when you compare the H20N against anything else at this end of the market.

Each finished reading synchronizes to the InBody App on its own, so a body composition figure taken this Sunday morning lands next to the one from last Sunday without anybody writing anything down. Eight contact points are why this scale carries a handle at all. Where the contacts sit decides which parts of the body the current actually travels through, and that single design decision separates the InBody H20N from a scale you stand on and nothing more.

Why the Hands Are In the Circuit

Body composition scales work by passing a small current through the body and reading the resistance it meets on the way. A scale with contacts only in its platform sends that current down one leg and up the other, so the path it reads is your lower body, and everything above your hips has to be estimated from it. The H20N uses an 8-point measurement system: four contacts at the feet, four more at the hands. With the grip raised, the current runs up an arm, across the trunk and down through the legs, which puts your upper body inside the measured circuit.

The Patented Thumb Electrodes

The thumb takes a contact of its own on the grip, which fixes where your hand sits on the electrode from one test to the next. A hand placed the same way every time gives the current the same entry point every time, and a consistent starting point is what makes two readings a week apart worth putting side by side. Wrapping your fingers around a bar and hoping is the version of this that other scales offer. A Handle Is Not a Styling Choice

The grip that lifts off the InBody H20N carries four of the scale's eight contact points, with your thumb sitting on its own patented electrode. Those four contacts are what put your arms and trunk inside the measured circuit, and they are the whole reason the scale is shaped the way it is. You stand on the platform, lift the grip to roughly waist height, hold your arms clear of your sides and stay still until the reading finishes. Bare, dry feet and dry hands are what the electrodes want, at both ends of the body and on every test.

Hold it. The four hand contacts are half of the eight point system, and without them the current has no path through your arms or your trunk. Lift the grip, put your thumbs on their electrodes, keep your arms clear of your sides and stand still until the reading finishes.

Repeatability. Giving the thumb its own contact fixes where your hand sits on the grip, so the current enters at the same place on every test. Two readings taken a week apart are only worth comparing if the hardware met your body the same way both times, and the thumb contact is how InBody handles that end of it.

A bathroom scale reports one number, which is the total. A body composition scale adds a small alternating current and reads how the body resists it, because lean tissue carries most of the body's water and passes current readily while fat tissue holds far less and resists more. The H20N reads that difference across eight contact points. Two people at the same weight can come back with very different readings.
