NOHRD HaptikBall Weighted Leather Ball

The NOHRD HaptikBall is a handheld weighted ball, hand-stitched from vegetable-tanned genuine leather and filled with iron granules. It comes in four weights, 300 g, 650 g, 1,250 g and 2,100 g, across a size range of 6 cm to 10 cm in diameter, so the heaviest ball is only a little larger than the lightest and the weight difference is carried by the fill. Each ball ships on its own: one ball per package, in whichever weight you order.

Iron granules are what give the ball its particular feel. A granular fill shifts slightly in the hand as the ball is gripped, held or swung, which is a different sensation from a solid cast weight of the same mass, and it lets NOHrD hit each of the four weights precisely. Squeezing, holding, lifting, throwing and swinging are the movements a HaptikBall is made for, and grip and forearm training is the use it is bought for most often.

The leather is treated with beeswax, which protects it against sweat and moisture and gives the surface a supple texture that improves with handling. Over time the leather takes on a patina, so a ball that has been in use for a year looks different from a new one. There are two colours, natural tan and black, the black stitched with black thread throughout.

The weights

Four Weights Between 300 g and 2.1 kg

Four weights cover the whole HaptikBall line, and they sit close enough together to be bought as a set. The size hardly changes across them, so what you are choosing is mass in the hand and nothing else.

01

Four Weights on Almost One Size

The line runs 300 g, 650 g, 1,250 g and 2,100 g, across a diameter range of only 6 cm to 10 cm. That means the 2,100 g ball is not much bigger in the hand than the 300 g one, and the jump between weights is felt as mass and not as a change in grip width. Buyers often start with one weight and add a second later, because the difference between 300 g and 650 g is a genuinely different exercise with the same movement. Each weight is ordered separately and arrives on its own.

02

Iron Granules Give It Its Feel

The fill is iron granules rather than a solid cast core, and the granules are what a HaptikBall feels like in the hand. A granular fill moves a little as the ball is squeezed, turned or swung, so the mass shifts under the fingers and never sits dead in the palm. It also lets each of the four weights be hit precisely, because granules can be measured into a shell in a way a cast slug cannot. The granules are chosen to balance the resistance of the squeeze against the comfort of holding the ball for a while.

03

Beeswax Over Vegetable-Tanned Leather

The shell is vegetable-tanned genuine leather treated with beeswax. Vegetable tanning is the slower, plant-based process, which is why the leather sits well against skin and develops the way it does. The beeswax is protection against sweat and moisture, which matters on a ball that spends its working life in a hand, and it leaves the surface supple where an untreated hide would stiffen. Wipe it down after use and the treatment lasts.

04

Hand-Stitched in Two Colours

Every ball is stitched by hand, and the stitching is visible around the whole shell. It comes in natural tan, where the thread contrasts against the leather, and in black, where black thread is used throughout for a uniform finish. Both colours are available across the full weight range, so a set of four can be bought in one colour. Hand stitching is also what makes the seams the strongest part of a ball that gets thrown at floors and walls.

Ownership

A Leather Ball That Ages Well

One ball per package, no assembly and nothing to maintain beyond a wipe down. Owning a HaptikBall comes down to four weights between 300 g and 2.1 kg, a leather body 6 to 10 cm across filled with iron granules, a beeswax treatment on the hide, and a choice of natural tan or black.

01

Four weights

300 g, 650 g, 1,250 g and 2,100 g, each ordered as its own item.

02

6 to 10 cm across

The whole line sits inside a 4 cm size range, so grip width barely changes between weights.

03

One ball per package

Balls are packed individually, so a set of four arrives as four items.

04

Iron granule fill

Granules shift slightly in the hand and let each weight be hit exactly.

05

Beeswax treatment

Protection against sweat and moisture on a piece of equipment that lives in a hand.

06

Leather takes a patina

The surface changes with handling, so a ball a year old looks unlike a new one.

07

Natural tan or black

Two colours across every weight, with black stitching throughout on the black balls.

08

One year, two on registration

NOHrD covers the ball for one year from shipment, going to two years if you register within that first year.

In detail

What Is Inside the Leather

Construction

Granules Held In by a Hand Seam

A HaptikBall is three things: a vegetable-tanned leather shell, an iron granule fill and a hand-stitched seam holding the two together. The granules are the reason the weight is precise and the reason it moves under the fingers, and they are the whole difference in feel between this and a moulded medicine ball of the same mass. The leather is treated with beeswax before it goes into service, which is what handles the sweat. The seam is stitched by hand, which is the part of a thrown ball that takes the abuse, and on the black version the thread is black for a uniform finish.

In the hand

Small Enough to Close in One Hand

Squeezing, holding, lifting, throwing and swinging are the five movements a HaptikBall is built around, and grip and forearm training is what most buyers use it for. At 6 to 10 cm across it closes inside an average hand, so a squeeze is a full-range movement and not a pinch around something too wide. The lighter balls are the ones people keep on a desk and use through the day; the 1,250 g and 2,100 g balls are heavy enough to be swung and thrown as a training item in their own right. Nothing needs setting up, which is the practical argument for keeping one in a bag.

  • No setup, nothing to adjust

Choosing

Which of the Four to Start With

The 300 g ball is the one to pick for long sessions of squeezing and for anyone starting out, because it can be worked for a while without the hand tiring out of the movement. The 650 g is the middle option most people settle on for general grip work. The 1,250 g and the 2,100 g are the training weights, heavy enough to be thrown, swung and held at arm's length as exercises in their own right. Because each ball ships on its own, a pair covering a light and a heavy option is two separate orders, and plenty of buyers build up to the full set of four over time.

  • 300 g for long squeezing sessions
  • 650 g as the general-purpose weight
  • 1,250 g and 2,100 g for throwing and swinging
  • Each weight is a separate item, one per package

Six NOHrD Pieces You Do Not Bolt Down

The HaptikBall is the only one of the six standalone NOHrD pieces you hold in a hand. The other five go on the floor, under you or above you, and every one of the six works without a wall fixing or a power lead behind it. At 300 g to 2,100 g the HaptikBall is also the lightest thing in that group, which runs up to a 40 kg folding frame.

Questions

Picking a HaptikBall Weight

Four: 300 g, 650 g, 1,250 g and 2,100 g, written in kilograms as 0.3 kg, 0.65 kg, 1.25 kg and 2.10 kg. Each is a separate item and each ships on its own, so a set of four is four orders. The diameter across the whole line runs only 6 cm to 10 cm, which means the weight changes far more than the size does.

Iron granules. A granular fill moves slightly in the hand when the ball is squeezed or swung, which is the feel the HaptikBall is known for, and it lets each of the four weights be measured out exactly. It is a different sensation from a solid cast weight of the same mass.

Vegetable-tanned genuine leather, treated with beeswax. The beeswax protects the shell against sweat and moisture and leaves the surface supple. With handling the leather takes on a patina, so a ball that has been used for a year looks different from a new one.

The 300 g for long sessions of squeezing and for anyone new to it, the 650 g as a general-purpose weight, and the 1,250 g or 2,100 g where the ball is being thrown, swung or held out at arm's length. Many buyers start with one and add a second later, since the movements are the same and only the load changes.

Natural tan and black, both across the full weight range. The black balls are stitched with black thread throughout, so the seams read as part of the surface; on the natural leather the stitching is visible against the tan.

One. Balls are packed individually by weight, so a pair or a full set of four arrives as separate items. Order each weight you want as its own line.

Squeezing, holding, lifting, throwing and swinging, with grip and forearm training as the usual reason people buy one. It is small enough to sit on a desk and be picked up through the day, and heavy enough in the larger weights to be used as a training item in a session.

Wipe it down after use and keep it out of standing water. The beeswax treatment handles sweat and moisture, and the leather is meant to change with handling, so marks and darkening are part of how the ball ages. The NOHrD care set is the maintenance kit for the wooden and leather equipment in the range.

Size and fill. A HaptikBall is 6 to 10 cm across and closes inside one hand, where a medicine ball is held in two; and the iron granule fill shifts under the fingers, where a moulded medicine ball is dead weight. The heaviest HaptikBall is 2,100 g, so this is hand and forearm equipment and not a ball for slams.

One year from the date of first shipment, extended to two years on all components by registering the product within the first year of purchase. Spare parts carry ninety days. Normal wear on a leather surface is not a warranty matter on any make of equipment, and on this one that wear is what the material is chosen for.
