Osaki | Grand Duo 4D+4D

Osaki Grand Duo 4D+4D Massage Chair

The Osaki Grand Duo 4D+4D Massage Chair carries two roller units on one track, one working your back and neck and the other your glutes and hamstrings. Both units are 4D, meaning the rollers change speed and rhythm as they press, and no other chair in the Osaki line runs 4D at both ends. Elsewhere the lower unit is usually 3D, which gives depth without the change of speed. The two units here run at the same time, each on its own half of the track, so the rhythm carries all the way down to your hamstrings.

Other Osaki dual-mechanism chairs run 4D with 2D or 3D, and the Ai Apex Duo runs 5D with 4D. A 2D roller moves up, down and across, always the same distance from your back. 5D is Osaki's name for a 4D unit with a further movement pattern layered on. Around the dual 4D mechanism sits the largest auto-program library short of the Apex Duo: 41 auto and 5 manual. A finger sensor at the front of the armrest reads you and picks from all 41. Scrolling 41 titles by hand would take longer than the massage. Sixty-two air cells cover the chair for a full body air massage, with the arm and palm bags split into three segments that knead and press in a wave. The SL-track measures 53 in. from your neck through your glutes to the top of your hamstrings, an unbroken path that an S-track chair cannot follow because it finishes at the lower back. Zero gravity holds three stages, which means your knees finish above your heart and your weight comes off your spine. The chair reclines fully 1 in. from a wall, and the side panels slide open at a button so you step in at seat height. It fits users up to 6 ft 3 in. and 280 lb, and comes in Brown, Beige and Black.

Inside the chair

How it works

The Grand Duo runs 4D at both ends of the track, a pairing unique in the Osaki line, and a 53 in. track, 41 auto programs and 62 air cells put it near the top of the range too.

4D at Both Ends of the Track
Osaki define the fourth dimension as speed and rhythm variation, layered on top of the vertical, horizontal and in-depth movement a 3D roller already has. On a 4D + 3D chair only the upper mechanism has it. The Grand Duo puts a 4D unit in both positions, so that variation runs the full length of the track. Both work at once, upper on your back and neck, lower on your glutes and hamstrings.
4D upper, 4D lower
A Finger on the Armrest Picks From 41
Forty-one is a large library, and a library that size earns its keep only if something narrows it down for you. The A.I. health sensor sits at the front of the armrest. Rest a finger on it and the chair reads heart rate, blood oxygen, microcirculation and fatigue, then picks from all 41 programs and aims at the areas the reading points to. Five manual programs sit underneath for the nights you already know what you want.
41 auto, 5 manual
Three-Stage Zero Gravity
Zero gravity raises your knees above your heart so your weight spreads across the frame. Most chairs store one position, some store two. The Grand Duo holds three stages, so the shallow recline for a shoulder program and the deep one for a full-body session are separate presets you press once for. It reaches a complete recline with 1 in. behind it, which is as close to a wall as any space saving massage chair in the Osaki range will sit.
3 stages
Arm and Palm Airbags in Three Segments
Sixty-two air cells cover the chair in layers, so the compression builds across a zone. The arms are the part Osaki reworked. The arm and palm bags split into three segments and inflate in a wave-like kneading and pressing motion down the length of your arm. Forearm, wrist and palm get worked in sequence.

Twenty-Four Airbags and Six Rollers Below the Knee

The calf rest runs outer calf rotation kneading with 8 airbags and 2 rollers, turning against the outside of each calf while the bags squeeze from either side. The footrest holds 4 rollers and 16 airbags and works the sides, the undersides and the backs of your feet along with the Achilles tendon. The whole assembly extends up to 7 in. from the remote, which takes the chair to a 6 ft 3 in. user, and it travels while you are already sitting in the seat.

Side Panels That Slide Out of the Way

Getting into a massage chair usually means stepping over a fixed armrest and lowering yourself past it. The Grand Duo takes that step out of the way with a powered side panel. Press the button and the panel slides back on its rail, opening the side of the seat so you walk in and sit down at normal chair height. Press it again and the panel closes around you. At 24.5 in. of shoulder width and 21 in. of seat width this is a wide chair to climb into, which is exactly why the panel is there.

  • Opens the side of the seat for level entry

Cabin

What the Grand Duo Adds Beyond the Massage

The cabin list on the Grand Duo runs long. Aromatherapy releases a fragrance you choose into the air around the chair. A negative ionizer is a small air-treatment unit built into the chair, and it runs whenever the chair is on. Chromotherapy LED lighting is the colored light that cycles through a range of tones, a mood feature and no more than that. Sound comes from Bluetooth speakers built into the chair, which pair to your phone so the audio is your own. You steer all of it from an 8 in. wireless touchscreen, the quick side control panels on the armrests, or your voice, with the command list in the remote menu.

How it compares

Most chairs in this group pair a 4D mechanism with a 3D one, and the Ai Apex Duo pairs 5D with 4D. The Grand Duo is the only one running 4D in both positions, and the 41 auto programs and 62 air cells are wrapped around that.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Yes, and the second 4D unit is what the whole chair is built around. Osaki define the fourth dimension as speed and rhythm variation, added on top of the vertical, horizontal and in-depth movement a 3D roller already has. On a 4D + 3D chair only the upper mechanism carries it, so the rhythm goes flat once the stroke passes your waist. The Grand Duo runs a 4D unit in both positions, upper on your back and neck, lower on your glutes and hamstrings, both at the same time. In this group of five it is the only chair that does, because three of the others run 4D with 3D and the Ai Apex Duo runs 5D with 4D.
An A.I. health sensor at the front of the armrest does it. Rest a finger on the sensor and the chair reads heart rate, blood oxygen, microcirculation and fatigue, then picks from all 41 auto programs and concentrates on the areas the reading points to. The full list stays on the 8 in. touchscreen if you would rather work through it yourself. The Grand Duo is not a medical device and nothing it reads is a diagnosis.
Yes. 5 manual programs sit underneath the 41 auto ones, and the body scan still runs first, so the rollers meet your own shoulder and lumbar positions before the first stroke. A manual program hands you the technique and the placement, for the night when one shoulder is the reason you sat down.
53 in. The SL-track runs from your neck, through your glutes, to the top of your hamstrings in one continuous path, with no break where the spine meets the seat. An S-track massage chair ends at the lower back, so the glutes and hamstrings are left to the airbags on those chairs.
Three separate stored recline positions on one chair. Each one raises your knees relative to your torso so your weight spreads across the frame and off your spine, and the third is the deepest angle the backrest holds. Because all three are stored, moving between them is a button press and not a hunt for the angle you had last time. The chair reaches a full recline with 1 in. of clearance behind it.
Getting in. Press the button and the side panel slides back on its rail. The side of the seat opens, so you step in and sit at normal chair height with no fixed armrest to climb over. Press again and it closes. On a chair with 24.5 in. of shoulder width, that changes how easy it is to get in and out every single time.
62 air cells through the chair, in layers, so the compression builds. The arm and palm airbags split into three segments and inflate in a wave-like kneading and pressing motion down your arm, so your forearm, wrist and palm get worked in sequence.
The calf rest runs outer calf rotation kneading with 8 airbags and 2 rollers. The footrest holds 4 foot rollers and 16 airbags and covers the sides, undersides and backs of your feet plus the Achilles tendon.
Up to 6 ft 3 in. The footrest travels up to 7 in. on its own, driven from the remote. The point of that travel is placement. Your calves have to sit inside the calf rest and your soles on the four foot rollers for either of them to reach you. Run the footrest out while you are sitting and stop it where your heels rest flat on the rollers.
280 lb. The chair itself weighs 323 lb, which is the number your delivery route has to handle. Inside, you get 24.5 in. across the shoulders and 21 in. of seat.
Two figures to work with: 33.5 in. assembled and 29 in. disassembled. If your narrowest doorway is under 33.5 in., the chair comes apart to get through it. At 65.7 in. long upright, a stair landing or a hallway corner is as likely to stop it as the frame.
Aromatherapy, a negative ionizer, which is the small air-treatment unit inside the chair, and chromotherapy LED lighting. Then Bluetooth speakers, an 8 in. wireless touchscreen controller, quick side control panels and intelligent voice control. Heating therapy runs alongside the massage. A removable pillow comes out when you want the rollers deeper into your back, and your phone charges on the wireless pad or the USB port. The chair comes in Brown, Beige and Black, and the specification is identical under all three covers.
