Chattanooga Optiflex Ankle CPM

The Chattanooga Optiflex Ankle CPM is a two-motor continuous passive motion machine for the ankle, giving full ankle range of motion with the foot strapped to one powered footplate. Motor A drives dorsiflexion and plantar flexion across 40-0-60 deg, so the foot travels 40 deg up and 60 deg down from neutral. Motor B adds inversion and eversion across 40-0-20 deg on the same footplate, with no repositioning between planes. The adjustable base works in bed or in a chair, and it is easy to move at 24.25 lb (11 kg). It is safety tested to CSA 601-1-M90 and UL 2601-1 and carries a two-year limited warranty.

The easy-to-use hand control stores treatment parameters on a memory chip card, and the settings return for the same patient at the next session.

The motors

How it works

Dorsiflexion and plantar flexion run on one motor and inversion and eversion on the second, each with its own travel limits on the hand control. The base sets up under a bed or a chair without a second frame.

The foot travels 40 deg up and 60 down
Motor A carries the foot through dorsiflexion and plantar flexion, written 40-0-60 deg: 40 deg above neutral and 60 deg below it. Motor B carries inversion and eversion at 40-0-20 deg, and the two motors work the foot in separate planes from the one footplate. Both motors are easy to adjust, and the travel follows each patient's own therapy protocol.

Speed settings and memory on one control
The hand control is the only control surface on the machine, and it carries two speed settings, a timer function and the parameter store, and a patient on a repeat course is set up once.

A base for a bed or a chair
The base adjusts so the same unit works with the patient supine in bed and with the patient seated in a chair, which puts one machine across an inpatient episode, a homecare episode and a clinic session. It sets up against the mattress or under the seat without a second frame.

Service parts follow the serial plate
Service parts split by generation, not by model name: machines up to serial 19999 take a 1AT fuse and machines from serial 20000 take a 2AT, read off the serial plate on the housing. Ground leakage is set at 500 microamps or less on the earlier units, and touch and patient leakage at 100 microamps or less on the later ones. The US power cord is order number 0.0034.011.
