Osaki | Model JP-Nexus 4D
The Osaki JP-Nexus 4D is a 4D massage chair, which means its rollers vary both depth and speed inside a single stroke, and Osaki builds it in Japan for quiet running. A noise reduction system makes it a Quiet Massage Chair, which matters in a room where someone else is reading. Sixteen auto programs sit alongside 35 manual programs for a total of 51, and 35 manual programs is the deepest library Osaki puts in a chair of this size. It needs only 3.5 in. behind the backrest for a full recline.
Those 35 manual programs are where the JP-Nexus separates from the chairs beside it. An auto program runs a fixed sequence from beginning to end. A manual program hands you the technique, the zone and the intensity, so you can work one part of your back the way you want it worked on a given day. Around them sit the parts Osaki build for the extremities. Reflexology is the practice of pressing specific points on the sole of the foot, and the JP-Nexus puts the same idea in the armrests as hand reflexology nodes for your palms and fingers. Underneath sit a memory foam kneading foot massage and specialized foot rollers with reflexology ridges. An airbag is the bladder that inflates and deflates to squeeze a limb, and airbag compression is what works your calves in the calf rests. Thirty-four air cells cover your body for full body air massage, and graphene heating warms your lumbar. The 4D massage mechanism runs on a laser-crafted steel SL-track from your neck and shoulders to your hamstrings, where an S-track would finish at the waist. That extended shape keeps a stroke going under your glutes. The JP-Nexus is rated to a 250 lb user and needs 3.5 in. of clearance behind it. Zero gravity is the recline that lifts your knees above your heart, and this chair stores two stages of it.
Japanese engineering
Osaki build the JP-Nexus in Japan around two things most chairs at this level treat as secondary: how quietly it runs, and how much of the massage you get to control.
The numbers
The JP-Nexus runs 16 auto and 35 manual programs on one 4D mechanism, with 3.5 in. of clearance behind the backrest for a full recline.
Closer look
Osaki make the JP-Nexus SL-track from laser-crafted steel and run it from your neck and shoulders through to your hamstrings, carrying the 4D massage mechanism the whole length. An automatic body scan reads you before a program starts and sets the roller positions from what it finds. Graphene heating warms the lumbar section, so your lower back is warm while the rollers work through it, and 34 air cells squeeze your body around the track.
The JP-Nexus works your lower leg three ways at once. Memory foam in the footrest shapes itself around your foot and applies force through it for the kneading foot massage. Specialized foot rollers underneath carry reflexology ridges that press the acupuncture points on your soles. The calf rests use airbag compression for the deep calf kneading. The whole footrest extends up to 5 in. on its own, which is the adjustment that sets all three to the length of your legs.
Three separate controls run the JP-Nexus 4D, and each of them has a job. The touchscreen controller is where the 51 programs live. Shortcut panels in the side of the armrest handle quick changes mid-session without opening a menu. Intelligent voice control covers the same commands when you are reclined and your arms are down in the reflexology armrests. The headrest lifts out, which brings your shoulders closer to the rollers for a deeper massage, and LED lighting sets the room around the chair.
Compare
These chairs share a 4D mechanism on an SL track, and the JP-Nexus is built in Japan with 35 manual programs, hand reflexology in the armrests and a noise reduction system.
