The Osaki OS-Pro Maestro is a 4D massage chair for the person who wants the controls, with rollers that travel out of the backrest and change speed as they press. How it works

The OS-Pro Maestro puts heat in the roller itself, gives you four scales of adjustment to move, and sizes itself to you with two scans, one of your body and one of your legs.

Heated Back Roller

On most chairs the heat is a pad behind the lumbar and the roller passes over it. On the OS-Pro Maestro the roller is the heater. It warms as it travels, so the warm surface covers the whole stroke from your neck to your hamstrings. A fixed panel warms one band and leaves the rest of your back cold. Apart from the Maestro LE, no other chair in this group of five does it this way.

Eight Discrete Levels on the Depth Axis

Depth is the axis that separates the generations of massage chair. A 2D mechanism is the one with none of it, and it works the back at whatever depth the frame sets. A 3D mechanism is the one that hands you that axis as a dial you set once. A 4D mechanism hands the same axis to the program, which moves the heads out and back while they travel, so the pressure changes under you without you touching anything. On the Maestro that depth axis carries 8 discrete levels. On top of that you get 5 strength adjustments, 5 intensity adjustments and 5 speed adjustments for the rollers. Six massage styles sit on the manual side, and four of them are named: kneading, tapping, shiatsu and rolling, each with 4 characteristics. You can pin the massage to a single spot on your back or run it by section: shoulders, arms, lower back or calves.

Computerized Body Scanning and Auto Leg Scan

Two separate scans set the chair up before the first program runs. The body scan reads your neck and back and detects your shoulder height, so the pressure lands where the muscle is. You can recalibrate it once the scan finishes if it sizes you short or tall. At the other end the ottoman scans your legs: the footrest extends and retracts, and you press with your feet when the length is right. The remote drives the leg section out or in by hand as well.

One Platform Under Two Maestros

Both chairs list at the same price and run the same platform. That platform is a 4D mechanism, a heated back roller, an SL-track that runs from the neck to under the thighs, and computerized body scanning. It also holds 8 auto programs and 6 massage styles, deep calf kneading, zero gravity, space saving and a shortcut panel. On the LE the slim LCD remote becomes a tablet, and a wireless pad joins the USB outlet both chairs already have. The rest of the difference is in the fit. Every Auto Program Here Has a Name

All eight auto programs on the OS-Pro Maestro have names: Demo, Relax, Swing, Stretch, Scrapin, Shiatsu, Lady and Gentleman. The manual side is where the chair earns its keep, with 6 massage styles on it. Kneading, tapping, shiatsu and rolling each come with 4 characteristics, and there are separate custom settings for neck and shoulder, lower back and air massage. The slim LCD remote puts recline, incline, auto and home on four physical buttons at the bottom, and everything else behind a touch screen. Deep Calf Kneading Starts With a Squeeze

Deep calf kneading on the Maestro runs in two moves. The calf section inflates first to the right pressure, holding your muscle against the panel, and only then does the kneading motion start. Inflating first gives the kneading something to work against, so the motion has your calf held in place for it. Underneath, spinning reflexology rollers travel along the sides and the middle of each foot, and reflexology is the practice of pressing set points on the sole of the foot. Air finishes the picture, with bags at your shoulders, your arms, your waist and pelvis, and your calves and feet. The roller track is the rail the roller unit rides along, and the full body air massage covers everything on either side of it.

The L Section Wraps Under Your Thighs

The SL-track on this chair is really two shapes welded into one run. The S section contours the natural curve of your spine, holding the rollers against your back as it changes angle from the neck down. An S-track massage chair is the version that stops there, at the lower back, leaving the seat and the backs of your thighs untouched. The L-track section is the second shape, carrying on past your lower back and wrapping underneath the back of your thighs. That stretch of body is where most chairs stop short. Osaki put that L section at about 50 percent more massage area than an average S-track chair, and a Maestro session carries on past the tailbone to finish at your hamstrings.

Fit is where they separate. This Maestro takes users from 4 ft 9 in. to 6 ft 4 in. and sits 3 in. from the wall, the wider range and the tighter fit of the pair.
