Chattanooga Hydrocollator

Chattanooga Hydrocollator Tabletop Heating Unit

The Chattanooga Hydrocollator Tabletop Heating Unit is a benchtop hot pack heating unit, a stainless steel water tank small enough for a counter that keeps a constant supply of Hydrocollator HotPacs at 160 to 165 F. Thermostatic control holds the temperature, and the tank switches itself off if the water level becomes too low. With no casters and no plumbing, it fills and drains by hand wherever a bench meets a hospital grade outlet. The 3 gal E-1 heats in 2 hours and comes with 4 Standard HotPacs. The 8 gal E-2 arrives with two Oversize, three Standard and one Neck Contour.

Filled, an E-1 weighs 55 lb and an E-2 125 lb, water and packs included, against dry weights of 15 lb and 29 lb. Both units run 1000 W on 110 to 120 V, 50/60 Hz with an internal 15 amp fuse, and both are Class 1, Type B, certified to UL 60601-1 and Can/CSA C222 No. 601.1.

The units

How it works

The E-1 and the E-2 differ in tank size, bench footprint, warm-up time and the set of HotPacs in the box, and share everything else.

The E-2 holds 8 gal on a bench
8 gal (32 L) with HotPacs, 15 x 13 x 20 in., 29 lb dry and 125 lb filled. It reaches 160 F in 4 hours and cools from it in 2 hours, so an overnight or early-morning start puts it in band for a full clinic day.
125 lb filled
The 3 gal E-1 heats in 2 hours
3 gal (11 L), 13 x 8 x 16 in., 15 lb dry and 55 lb filled. It reaches 160 F in 2 hours and cools from it in 1 hour, the fastest turnaround in the Hydrocollator range and half the warm-up of the E-2. It runs on the same 1000 W element as the larger tank.
2 hours to 160 F
The E-2 pack set
The E-2 arrives with six HotPacs across three sizes: two Oversize, three Standard and one Neck Contour. Two of the six are the largest size Chattanooga makes and one is shaped for the neck, and the unit covers three pack formats out of the box and needs terry or microfiber covers in all three sizes from day one.
6 packs, 3 sizes
Filled and drained by hand
Both units are stationary, filled and drained by hand, and they sit on whatever you put them on. A hospital grade electrical outlet with a ground terminal receptacle is required, and there is a risk of explosion if the unit is used in the presence of flammable anesthetics.

Key features

A tabletop Hydrocollator suits a room that cannot give up floor space, in a stainless steel tank built for daily use in a busy clinic.

Stainless steel build
Stainless steel, durable and easy to maintain, built for long-term daily use in busy clinics.
No floor space needed
Both units sit on a bench, a counter or a cart, and neither takes floor space of its own in the treatment room.
Warm-up and cool-down
E-1 reaches 160 F in 2 hours and cools in 1; E-2 takes 4 hours and cools in 2.
Thermal cut-out
A thermal cut-out at 180 to 185 F sits above the working band on both units, with temperature accuracy of +/- 10 percent.
A cart for the tank
The MB stainless steel cart carries the SS, E-2 and E-1 heating units, so a tabletop tank moves between rooms on it.
Covers on every pack
Always wrap a HotPac in a towel or terry cover before handling it or applying it to a patient.
Treatment time limit
Treatment time should not exceed 30 minutes, and the packs are rated for up to 30 minutes of consistent heat.
Warranty term
One year, twelve months, from the date of original consumer purchase, on both the E-1 and the E-2.

How it compares

The E-1 and E-2 sit on a bench at 3 or 8 gal, the mobile Hydrocollator units stand on the floor at 10 to 27 gal, and Fluidotherapy holds an extremity in heated cellulose media instead of a pack.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

E-1 13 x 8 x 16 in. (33 x 20 x 41 cm). E-2 15 x 13 x 20 in. (38 x 33 x 51 cm). Tank capacity is 3 gal (11 L) on the E-1 and 8 gal (32 L) with HotPacs on the E-2.

Four Standard 10 x 12 in. packs with the E-1; two Oversize, three Standard and one Neck Contour with the E-2, six in all. Covers, tongs and a thermometer are separate items on both units, and covers in three sizes put an E-2 into service on the day it lands.

The E-2 takes the Hydrocollator HotPacs range, its own set including the Oversize 15 x 24 in. and the 24 in. Neck Contour. The E-1 holds 3 gal of water in a 13 x 8 in. cabinet, against the 15 x 24 in. of an Oversize pack, and Standard 10 x 12 in. packs are the size it ships with.

Do not apply a HotPac directly to skin. Do not apply over insensitive skin or in the presence of poor circulation. Do not use a HotPac directly over cuts, abrasions or wounds. Treatment time should not exceed 30 minutes, and a health care professional should be consulted before using HotPacs on non-communicative individuals.

A hospital grade electrical outlet with a ground terminal receptacle, which Chattanooga requires for both units. Both units are 1000 W at 110 to 120 V, 50/60 Hz with an internal 15 amp fuse. There is also a risk of explosion if the unit is used in the presence of flammable anesthetics, and the outlet belongs well clear of any such store.

Yes. The MB cart carries the SS, E-2 and E-1 heating units, and a tabletop tank and a cart go together on a floor that has no bench to spare. The stainless steel cart comes in three builds: the two-shelf MB, the three-shelf MB-T and the MB-TD, which trades a shelf for a drawer.

The tank is filled and drained by hand and there is no plumbing connection, so water changes are a manual job on whatever schedule your clinic sets. Drain before you move either model: a filled E-1 is 55 lb and a filled E-2 is 125 lb, and the water in the tank is sitting at 160 to 165 F.

One year, twelve months, from the date of original consumer purchase, with repair or replacement without charge within thirty days for a covered defect. It excludes misuse, unauthorised repair and failure to maintain the unit as instructed.

Tabletop where floor space is the constraint and one or two rooms draw from the tank. The mobile SS-2, M-2 and M-4 start at 10 gal and 8 packs, run to 27 gal and 24 packs, and move on their own casters, but they take 4 to 8 hours to reach temperature against 2 hours on an E-1, and an M-4 is 340 lb filled. A clinic can run an E-1 for quick turnaround alongside a larger mobile unit.
