The Therabody RecoveryTherm Knee is a knee wrap with heat, cold and vibration built in, powered by a battery that lifts out of the garment. Three programs run on it: hot for 90 minutes, cold for 60 and contrast for 30. Vibration comes in Low, High and Wave patterns, alone or on top of either temperature. The shell is neoprene and germanium-infused fabric, and a flexible neoprene strap pulls the one-size wrap snug around the joint. The contoured cut is the argument for this wrap over a block and a strap. It curves around the kneecap and closes behind the joint, so the warm or cold surface stays in contact whether you are on the sofa or walking to the kitchen. The hot program does not hold one level from start to finish. Warmth builds gradually through the treatment and then tapers down towards the end, which is a different profile from a mains heat pad that arrives at full temperature and stays there. The Fit

One size and one strap

There is no size chart on this product and no small, medium or large to choose between. The wrap is cut to curve over the kneecap and close behind the joint, and a single flexible neoprene strap takes up the slack for a thin leg or a heavy one. Germanium-infused fabric lines the inside, neoprene forms the body, and the whole thing bends with the knee as you move. Once it is fastened your hands are free, which is the practical difference between a wearable wrap and an ice pack you have to hold in place.

Programs chosen on the wrap

Everything runs from buttons on the outside of the garment. Pick hot, cold or contrast, then add one of the three vibration patterns or leave vibration off entirely. Each program runs to a set length: 90 minutes for hot, 60 for cold and 30 for contrast. A treatment starts in the time it takes to press a button twice, because the controls sit on the garment itself. Vibration can be switched on and off independently of whichever temperature program is running.

The wrap, battery, case and cable

The box holds the wrap, the removable battery, a soft case and a USB-C charging cable with a power adapter. The adapter is the part worth noticing, because it means the cable does not have to find a free port on a laptop before the wrap can be used again. The battery comes out of its pocket to charge, so the garment can stay in the soft case while the pack sits on a worktop. It fits one knee, in one size, with an adjustable neoprene strap doing the work a size chart would otherwise do. It takes no attachments and every setting is chosen on the shell. It is not a general-purpose device: for a shoulder, an elbow or a calf the RecoveryTherm Cube and its two straps are the ones that reach.
