Chattanooga Intelect Transport 2 Ultrasound

The Chattanooga Intelect Transport 2 Ultrasound is a lightweight, portable ultrasound therapy unit, built for clinic use or on the go. Therapeutic ultrasound runs at 1 MHz or 3.3 MHz, pulsed or continuous. The 4.2 lb case measures 13.6 x 9.8 x 4.7 in., light enough to carry between treatment rooms. A keypad and color LCD set each treatment. With coupling detection on, an LED on the applicator and an audible beep tell you the moment the head becomes decoupled. It runs from mains or the optional Li-Ion pack, and a 5 cm2 applicator comes standard, with 2 and 10 cm2 heads available.

How it works

Every setting on the Transport 2 Ultrasound belongs to the ultrasound: two frequencies, four duty cycles, three head sizes and a coupling indicator on the applicator itself. Treatment time runs 1 to 30 minutes.

The Transport 2 Ultrasound produces therapeutic ultrasound alone and has no stimulation output. The unit is rated IP21 and the applicator IPX7.

Dual-frequency ultrasound

Ultrasound runs at 1 MHz or 3.3 MHz. Duty cycles are 10%, 20%, 50% and continuous, pulse repetition rate is 100 Hz and pulse duration is 1 to 5 ms. The beam is collimating and the beam nonuniformity ratio is under 6:1, and every one of those settings works on all three head sizes.

Head sizes and ERA

On the 2 cm2 head the effective radiating area, the part of the face that actually emits, is 1.5 cm2, rising to 3.0 cm2 on the 5 cm2 head and 5.8 cm2 on the 10 cm2, at both frequencies. Intensity on the 5 cm2 head is 2 W/cm2 continuous and 3 W/cm2 pulsed, which is 6 W continuous and 9 W pulsed in total output. On the 10 cm2 head it is 2.2 W/cm2 continuous at 1 MHz and 1.2 W/cm2 at 3.3 MHz, or 12.7 W and 6.9 W.

Coupling detection on the head

With US Coupling switched on, the applicator LED stays constantly illuminated while the head is properly coupled and administering ultrasound, and it flashes if the head becomes uncoupled. The unit then stops the treatment timer, sounds an audible beep, or does both, so you read contact without looking away from the patient.

The unit ships with a 5 cm2 ultrasound applicator and a power cord. The 2 cm2 and 10 cm2 heads, the 18 V Li-Ion pack and the cart are separate orders, and coupling gel, the one consumable on an ultrasound-only unit, is not included.

No. This is the Transport 2, the second-generation platform, and the first-generation Intelect TranSport Ultrasound is a different machine built on the earlier platform. Applicators, batteries, carry bags and cart adapters do not cross between the two.

The Transport 2 family in 2 cm2, 5 cm2 and 10 cm2, sold as the Transport 2 Ultrasound Applicator. There is no 1 cm2 head for the Transport 2, so the smallest head it takes is the 2 cm2, with a 1.5 cm2 effective radiating area.

No, it is a bench unit at 13.6 x 9.8 in. The optional Chattanooga Electrotherapy Cart attaches magnetically with no tools, carries storage, and is built for the Legend 2 and the Transport 2 alike. The cart stands 48 cm wide, 52 cm deep and 96 cm high, weighs 10.1 kg and holds the device at 108.5 cm.

Do not use the Transport 2 Ultrasound when cancerous lesions are present in the treatment area, on pregnant women, or over or near implantable neurostimulating cardiac demand pacemakers, ICDs or other implantable electronic devices. Transthoracic and chest application, application over the eye, and application over or near bone growth centres until bone growth is complete are all excluded as well. Chattanooga further warns against turning the unit on or off while it is connected to the patient, and against operating it with accessories other than the ones named for it. Those points are a summary and no substitute for the manual.
