Chattanooga Vectra Neo Electrotherapy System

The Chattanooga Vectra Neo is a modular clinical electrotherapy and therapeutic ultrasound platform, and the base unit is the console head. What arrives under that name is the head on its own: a color touchscreen on a weighted foot, its power supply and its protocol library. The base unit ships with the display only, and neither the therapy modules nor the therapy system cart are inside that carton. Every modality a Neo can produce, from two channels of stimulation to sEMG, therapeutic ultrasound and a Class 3B laser, arrives on a module you specify as a separate line on the same order.

Five modules slide into the side of the head: channel 1/2 stimulation, channel 3/4 stimulation, sEMG with channel 1/2 stimulation, ultrasound and laser. Each one carries its own connector faceplate and its own leadwire or applicator set, and the console adds that modality's screens as soon as the module is seated. A clinic that wants two stimulation channels this year and ultrasound the next buys the head once and adds the ultrasound module when the budget arrives. Each module measures 11.12 x 6.34 x 1.43 in. and weighs 1 lb, so a fully specified Neo takes no more bench space than a bare one.

The head measures 15.89 x 15.89 x 22.05 in. on a tabletop with the screen tilted to 45 deg, and it weighs 20.7 lb. On the optional therapy system cart, with the screen at 90 deg, the assembly measures 23.94 x 26.19 x 52.85 in. and weighs 48.9 lb. Mains input is 100 to 240 V AC at 2.5 A to 1.25 A, 50/60 Hz, the head is Electrical Class I and rated IPX0, and the applicators that plug into it are rated IPX7. The Neo is built for a clinic treatment room and for an operator working at the touchscreen: they load the modules that room owns, pick a modality, set the output on that module, and keep up to 100 protocol options on the chassis so the treatments the room runs most often come back without retyping.

The Neo Head Is a Chassis Until a Module Arrives

Every output figure a Neo can reach belongs to a module that plugs into the side of the head, and the chassis itself carries the touchscreen and the protocol library. A head with no module seated produces no stimulation current, no ultrasound and no laser energy at all, so the first module is part of the first order and it sets what the system can do on day one.

What the Base Head Gives You on Its Own

The base unit is a color touchscreen on a tilting mount, its power supply, a library of up to 100 protocol options and a high-speed USB port for software updates and transfers. An integrated anatomical reference library sits alongside those protocols on the same screen. There is no stimulation output, no ultrasound generator and no laser driver anywhere inside the base head, so at least one of the five modules belongs on the same purchase order as the console.

Twelve Waveforms on the Stimulation Modules

Interferential 4-pole and premodulated 2-pole both run 0 to 100 mA on a 2,000 Hz to 10,000 Hz carrier. VMS runs 0 to 114 mA constant current at 1 to 200 pps with a 20 to 400 microsecond phase duration, and VMS Burst and VMS FR run beside it. Symmetrical biphasic TENS reaches 0 to 73 mA and asymmetrical biphasic TENS reaches 0 to 93 mA, both across 1 to 250 Hz. High voltage pulsed current runs 0 to 500 V at 10 to 120 pps, and microcurrent, direct current, Russian and HAN TENS complete the set of twelve.

Two Frequencies on the Ultrasound Module

Ultrasound runs at 1 MHz +/- 5% and 3.3 MHz +/- 5%, with amplitude from 0 to 2.5 W/cm2 in continuous and pulsed modes, duty cycles of 10%, 20%, 50% and continuous, and a beam nonuniformity ratio of 5:1 maximum. Output on the 10 cm2 head is 0 to 15 W at 1 MHz and 0 to 10 W at 3.3 MHz, dropping to 0 to 6 W on the 5 cm2 head and 0 to 3 W on the 2 cm2. The sound head itself is a separate order in 1, 2, 5 or 10 cm2.

What the Class 3B Laser Module Needs

The laser module covers 670 to 950 nm and 100 to 1440 mW, both dependent on which applicator is fitted, with a pulse frequency from 8 Hz to 10,000 Hz and a continuous setting. It is a Class 3B laser, and it requires protective eyewear rated L3 and compliant with EN207, plus a door interlock. The laser module kit arrives with that eyewear, the interlock and a patient remote, and the same remote doubles as the laser interrupt switch.

What the Console Does Before a Module Arrives

The head carries a color touchscreen on a tilting mount, the Clinical Protocol Setup routine that walks a clinician through each therapy step by step, and access to up to 100 protocol options. An integrated anatomical reference library with pathologies sits on the same console, and a high-speed USB port handles software updates and data transfers. The head is Electrical Class I and rated IPX0, while the applicators that connect to it are rated IPX7. Applied parts are Type B on the ultrasound and laser sides and Type BF on electrotherapy. None of that produces a single treatment on its own, because all of the output hardware lives in the modules.

Two Modules Compete for the Same Channel Pair

The stimulation choice is the one that gets ordered wrong most often. The Channel 1/2 Stimulation Module gives channels 1 and 2, and the EMG and Channel 1/2 Stimulation Module gives the same two channels plus sEMG, so the sEMG version takes the place of the plain one and does not sit alongside it. The Channel 3/4 Stimulation Module adds channels 3 and 4 and only earns its place on top of one of the other two, which is how a Neo becomes a four-channel machine. The Ultrasound Module and the Laser Therapy Module are independent of the stimulation choice and can be added in either order, at any point in the platform's life. All five measure 11.12 x 6.34 x 1.43 in. and weigh 1 lb apiece, and each adds its own screens to the console once it is seated.

Which Sound Heads and Carts Belong to a Neo

Sound heads on this platform come in 1, 2, 5 and 10 cm2 and are catalogued as Vectra ultrasound head applicators. Order them by the Vectra name, because the first-generation Intelect TranSport heads come in the same four nominal sizes, look much the same on a shelf and are a different part family that will not run on a Neo. The 1 cm2 head runs at 3.3 MHz only, and its effective radiating area is 0.9 cm2 against 1.8, 4 and 8.5 cm2 on the 2, 5 and 10 cm2 heads. The cart is the Vectra Neo Therapy System Cart, height-adjustable with three drawers and 29.4 lb on its own, and the Vectra Genisys cart is no substitute for it. The patient remote is the Vectra Neo remote, and on a laser build the same remote serves as the interrupt switch.

Chattanooga's current electrotherapy generation runs to three platforms. The Neo is the only modular one and the only one that can carry a Class 3B laser, while the Intelect Legend 2 and the Intelect Transport 2 Combo each arrive complete in a single box. Weight separates them as sharply as capability does: 20.7 lb for a Neo head, 6.8 lb for a two-channel Legend 2 and 4.9 lb for a Transport 2 Combo.

What Each of the Five Neo Modules Adds

The base unit including the display, and nothing else. Therapy modules and the therapy system cart are separate catalogue items on separate order lines. A Neo with no module fitted has no stimulation, ultrasound or laser output at all, so order at least one module with the head.

Two of them. A channel 1/2 module, either the plain one or the version with sEMG, and then the Channel 3/4 Stimulation Module on top of it. The channel 3/4 module cannot be a Neo's only stimulation module, and the two channel 1/2 modules occupy the same channel pair, so buying both of those gains you nothing.

No. The Ultrasound Module arrives without an applicator, so plan on ordering one with it. The Vectra heads come in 1 cm2, 2 cm2, 5 cm2 and 10 cm2, with effective radiating areas of 0.9, 1.8, 4 and 8.5 cm2 in that order, and the head you choose sets the output the module can reach.

A Vectra head belongs to the Neo and the Genisys platforms; a TranSport head belongs to the first-generation Intelect TranSport. Also contraindicated are patients with implantable neurostimulating devices, cancerous lesions in the treatment area, application over the pregnant uterus, and electrode placement at the carotid sinus region of the anterior neck.
