Chattanooga Intelect TranSport Combo

The Chattanooga Intelect TranSport Combo is the first-generation combination stimulation and ultrasound unit in the TranSport line. Chattanooga has withdrawn it from the current US catalogue and replaced it with the Intelect Transport 2 Combo, which we also sell. The two names are one word apart, yet they are different chassis sharing no parts at all: the first-generation combo takes first-generation sound heads and the Transport 2 takes its own. Read the model name off the label on the back of the case, order by machine name and generation, and ask us to confirm before you buy an applicator, a battery or a cart bracket.

What this combo carries is two channels of stimulation with four waveforms on board, and a dual-frequency ultrasound generator running 1 MHz and 3.3 MHz across four interchangeable head sizes, up to 20 W on the 10 cm2 head at 1 MHz. Fifteen user-defined protocol storage positions sit behind the keypad, alongside four ultrasound duty cycles at 10, 20, 50 and 100 percent. Stimulation treatment times run 1 to 60 min, against a 30 min ceiling on the ultrasound side.

The case measures 29.2 x 25.7 x 18.4 cm and weighs 2.3 kg with its base. Mains input is 100-240 V, 1.0 A, 50/60 Hz, 100 W max, so the unit is not tied to a 110 V supply. The alternative is the Transportable NiMH pack, twenty AA cells weighing 0.85 kg, which drops into the base in place of the mains lead. Electrical classification is CLASS I, with a TYPE B applied part for ultrasound and TYPE BF for electrotherapy.

Two Channels and Twenty Watts in One Case

A combination unit has two output sides to judge: the stimulation front end, scaled in milliamps and volts, and the ultrasound generator, scaled in watts and set by the head you fit.

01

Four Waveforms Set in mA and Volts

Interferential runs 0-100 mA with a 2000-5000 Hz carrier and a 1-200 Hz beat, in constant current or constant voltage. Premodulated is 0-100 mA on a fixed 2500 Hz carrier. High Voltage Pulsed Current is 0-500 V at 10-120 pps, a twin-peak pulse. Russian is 0-100 mA at 20-100 bps with duty cycles of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 percent, and all four waveforms run 1-60 min.

02

Dual-Frequency Ultrasound

1 MHz and 3.3 MHz, a collimating beam and a beam nonuniformity ratio of 5.0:1 or less. Output power is head-dependent: 0-2 W on the 1 cm2, 0-4 W on the 2 cm2, 0-10 W on the 5 cm2, and 0-20 W at 1 MHz or 0-10 W at 3.3 MHz on the 10 cm2. Intensity is 0-2.5 W/cm2 continuous and 0-3 W/cm2 pulsed, across duty cycles of 10, 20, 50 and 100 percent.

03

Effective Radiating Area by Head

Four sound head sizes, each pre-calibrated and interchangeable on the same base. Effective radiating area is 0.7-1 cm2 on the 1 cm2 head, 1.4-2 cm2 on the 2 cm2, 3.5-5 cm2 on the 5 cm2 and 6.8-10 cm2 on the 10 cm2. The 5 cm2 head is the standard applicator that ships with the unit, and the other three sizes are separate orders that move the output ceiling with them.

Generation

Read the Case Before You Reorder a Head

Both generations of TranSport combo carry names that differ by a single word, and the two machines look alike on a bench, so the label on the case is the separator that matters. The first generation is the Intelect TranSport Combo and the current-generation machine is the Intelect Transport 2 Combo. The distinction bites at the moment you reorder, because the four first-generation sound heads and the Transport 2 heads are separate families that will not cross over, and a mis-ordered head is the most common complaint in this family. Read the full model name off the label on the back of the case, order by that name and generation, and ask us to confirm the head before the basket goes anywhere.

  • Sound heads in 1 cm2, 2 cm2, 5 cm2 and 10 cm2
  • Transportable NiMH battery pack, TranSport carry bag and grey cart adapter
  • Transport 2 parts are a separate family and do not fit
  • Vectra Genisys sound heads carry the same four nominal sizes and are a different part

Fitment

Two Consumable Lines on One Combo Order

All of the parts this combo takes are first-generation TranSport hardware, stocked and shipped on their own lines. The 5 cm2 applicator is the head the unit arrives with, and the other three sizes are separate orders that each move the output ceiling. Electrodes are the stimulation consumable and are ordered by size, while coupling gel is the ultrasound consumable, so a combo unit keeps two supply lines running where a single-modality unit keeps one. If the machine is going on a therapy cart, the grey TranSport adapter is the bracket that mates the two and it is a separate line on the order.

The family

The three first-generation TranSport units

The combo, the ultrasound unit and the 2-channel stimulator share one chassis and differ at the front end: a combination unit, an ultrasound generator and a stimulator. None of their figures carry across to the Transport 2 pair, which is a separate generation with its own output ranges and its own parts.

Questions

Choosing a Sound Head for the TranSport Combo

No. What we sell is the first-generation Intelect TranSport Combo. The Intelect Transport 2 Combo is a separate machine on the current-generation chassis. Different chassis, different applicator series, no shared parts.

The first-generation Intelect series, in 1 cm2, 2 cm2, 5 cm2 and 10 cm2. The 5 cm2 head ships with the unit. Transport 2 heads will not fit, and neither will the Vectra Genisys heads, which carry the same four nominal sizes but are a different part. Order a head by machine name, generation and size, and ask us to confirm it against the label on your case.

Fifteen user-defined positions, the same count the TranSport 2-Channel carries on the same chassis. A stored protocol holds the waveform, its parameters and the treatment time, so a set routine is recalled without re-entering anything at the keypad.

100-240 V, 1.0 A, 50/60 Hz, 100 W max. The range is wide enough to run the unit outside North America without a transformer, so it is not a 110 V only machine. Away from a socket, the Transportable NiMH pack of twenty AA cells drops into the base and adds 0.85 kg.

By head: 0-2 W on the 1 cm2, 0-4 W on the 2 cm2, 0-10 W on the 5 cm2, and 0-20 W at 1 MHz or 0-10 W at 3.3 MHz on the 10 cm2. Intensity is 0-2.5 W/cm2 continuous and 0-3 W/cm2 pulsed, with duty cycles of 10, 20, 50 and 100 percent. Maximum treatment time is 30 minutes.

No. The 1 cm2 head runs at 3.3 MHz only. If a 1 MHz protocol is what you need, order the 2, 5 or 10 cm2 head, and note that the full 0-20 W is only available on the 10 cm2 head at 1 MHz.

Trained clinic staff, at a bench or on a Vectra Genisys cart the unit docks to through the grey adapter. The operator picks the stimulation waveform and enters its parameters on the keypad, sets intensity on each of the two channels, chooses the applicator size and the 1 MHz or 3.3 MHz generator on the ultrasound side, and stores the finished setup in one of fifteen user-defined protocol positions. Applicator choice decides what the ultrasound side can do: the 1 cm2 head is 3.3 MHz only, and the full 0-20 W is reached on the 10 cm2 head at 1 MHz.

The device is contraindicated over cancerous lesions and open wounds, during pregnancy and over a pregnant uterus, and in patients with cardiac demand pacemakers. Stimulation should not be applied transthoracically, because current of this magnitude must not flow through the thorax and may cause a cardiac arrhythmia, and stimulation should not be applied over the anterior neck. Treat that as a summary and read the manual in full before use.

The Combo is the only one of the three first-generation units that carries both modalities. The TranSport Ultrasound is ultrasound only, with no stimulation channels and a 2 to 5 hour battery rating. The TranSport 2-Channel is stimulation only, and it scales its output in volts where the Combo scales in milliamps. All three share the chassis, the NiMH battery pack, the carry bag and the grey cart adapter, and the Combo and the Ultrasound both take the same four first-generation sound heads.

Two matter on every ultrasound treatment: always keep the sound head in constant motion and always keep the sound head in full contact with the patient's skin. Patients with implanted neurostimulation devices must avoid diathermy, which matters in a clinic that also runs a shortwave unit. On the stimulation side, current of this magnitude must not flow through the thorax.

The 5 cm2 applicator, a leadwire for each of channels 1 and 2, electrodes, coupling gel and the manual on CD. Treat that as the configuration as we ship it, and ask us before you order if one specific item in the carton is decisive for you.

Yes, through the grey TranSport cart adapter, which is a separate part. The adapter mates the unit to the Vectra Genisys therapy cart. The Transport 2 attaches magnetically and needs no adapter, which is another reason the two generations do not interchange.

The Transportable NiMH pack, twenty AA cells at 1.2 V weighing 0.85 kg, which seats in the base of the unit. It is the same pack the TranSport Ultrasound and the TranSport 2-Channel take, and on the ultrasound-only unit that pack is rated for 2 to 5 hours of treatment. For a full clinic list back to back, mains is the supply to plan around.

Both sibling manuals in this family carry two years (24 months) from the date of original consumer purchase on the unit, and the TranSport Ultrasound adds one year (12 months) on applicators. Ask us before you buy if the warranty position on this combo is decisive for the order.

The first-generation combo no longer appears in the Chattanooga US catalogue, where the Transport 2 line has taken its place. It continues as dealer stock, and the first-generation parts are the ones that fit it. If long-term factory parts availability is the deciding factor for you, the Transport 2 Combo is the current-generation machine.
