Chattanooga Intelect TranSport 2-Channel Electrotherapy

The Chattanooga Intelect TranSport 2-Channel Electrotherapy is a portable electrical stimulation unit with two channels of output, a large, easy-to-read graphical LCD and independent intensity and parameter controls for each channel. Four standard waveforms come on board: Interferential, Premodulated, High Voltage Pulsed Current and Russian. High Voltage Pulsed Current reaches 0-500 V at 10-120 pps, and the other three run 0-100 V in constant voltage, each for 1 to 60 minutes. The unit is built for tabletop, wall mount, therapy cart or mobile use, and it runs from mains or a NiMH battery pack.

The unit is stimulation only, with no ultrasound channel and no applicator connector on the case. It measures 12.9 x 11.3 x 6.4 in. (32.8 x 28.8 x 16.3 cm), weighs 5.07 lb (2.3 kg) and ships at 9 lb (4 kg). The Transportable NiMH pack of twenty AA cells adds 1.87 lb and seats in the base in place of a mains lead.

Output and control

How it works

The TranSport 2-Channel carries four waveforms across two independent channels, each with its own output range, ramp behaviour and cycle timing, and all of them scaled in volts.

High Voltage Pulsed Current
High Voltage Pulsed Current runs 0-500 V at 10-120 pps with selectable positive or negative polarity, ramp options of 0.5, 1, 2 and 5 seconds, and a treatment time of 1-60 min. The waveform is a very brief pulse duration characterised by two distinct peaks, and it is the only output on the machine that runs into hundreds of volts.
0-500 V
Interferential
Interferential runs 0-100 V in constant voltage with a carrier of 2000 to 10,000 Hz, with set points at 2,500 Hz, 4,000 Hz and 5,000 Hz. Sweep covers 1-199 Hz on the low side and 2-200 Hz on the high side, with a treatment time of 1-60 min.
2,000 to 10,000 Hz
Premodulated and Russian
Premodulated is 0-100 V on a fixed 2,500 Hz carrier, beat 1-199 Hz with sweep off, and cycle times of Continuous, 5/5, 4/12, 10/10, 10/20, 10/30 and 10/50. Russian is 0-100 V at 20-100 bps, a sinusoidal waveform delivered in bursts, with duty cycles of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 percent and channel modes of Single, Reciprocal and Co-Contract. Both waveforms run 1-60 min, the same treatment window as the rest of the machine.
7 cycle times
CLASS I With a TYPE BF Applied Part
Mains input is 100-240 V, 1.0 A, 50/60 Hz, 100 W max, and electrical classification is CLASS I with a TYPE BF applied part. Ten user-defined memory positions hold the protocols you build, so a set routine comes back without re-entering it at the keypad.

In the clinic

Key features

The TranSport 2-Channel puts two channels of stimulation, a graphical LCD and a choice of mains or battery into one 5.07 lb case.

Leadwires by channel
Each leadwire is keyed to its own channel.
Channels set separately
Each channel carries its own intensity and parameter entry, so one unit covers two electrode pairs on a single area or two areas at once, and Russian adds Single, Reciprocal and Co-Contract channel modes.
Graphical LCD
A logical control system and a large, easy-to-read graphical LCD put every parameter in front of the operator.
Mains or battery
Run it from the wall at 100 to 240 V, or from the NiMH pack on the days it moves between rooms.
Electrodes are the consumable
Self-adhesive electrodes, ordered by size.
Cart docking
The grey TranSport adapter docks the unit to a therapy cart, and the optional cart adds storage for clinical supplies.
Warranty on the unit
24 months from original consumer purchase, with a 30-day repair or replacement window.
Safety tested
The unit is tested to UL/IEC/EN 60601-1, IEC/EN 60601-1-2 and IEC 60601-2-10, as a Class 1, Type BF device.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

No. The 2 in this product's name counts stimulation channels on the first-generation Intelect TranSport chassis. The Intelect Transport 2 platform, the Transport 2 Combo and the Transport 2 Ultrasound, is a later chassis, and no applicator, battery, carry bag or cart adapter crosses between the two generations.

No. It is stimulation only, with no ultrasound channel and no applicator connector. The first-generation unit that carries both modalities in one case is the TranSport Combo.

100-240 V, 1.0 A, 50/60 Hz, 100 W max. A 110 V North American supply and a 230 V European supply both sit inside that range, and neither needs a transformer. Away from a socket, the Transportable NiMH pack of twenty AA cells at 1.2 V seats in the base.

One of the four waveforms and its parameters, the intensity on each channel separately, and a treatment time between 1 and 60 min, all on the keypad against the graphical LCD. High Voltage Pulsed Current adds a polarity choice, positive or negative, with 0.5, 1, 2 and 5 sec ramp options.

The device should not be used for symptomatic local relief of pain unless the etiology is established, should not be used when cancerous lesions are present, and should not be used when open wounds are present. Safety has not been established for therapeutic electrical stimulation during pregnancy, and powered muscle stimulators should not be used on patients with cardiac demand pacemakers. Read the manual in full before use.

Stimulation should not be applied over the anterior neck or mouth, should not be applied transthoracically, and should not be applied over swollen, infected and inflamed areas. The reason for the transthoracic warning is that current of this magnitude must not flow through the thorax, because it may cause a cardiac arrhythmia.

The TranSport Combo adds a dual-frequency ultrasound generator to the same two stimulation channels, and it scales its stimulation output in milliamps where this unit works in volts. Interferential on the Combo is 0 to 100 mA with a 2000 to 5000 Hz carrier, and here it is 0 to 100 V with a 2000 to 10,000 Hz carrier. Both run 1-60 min on every waveform, and electrodes are the only consumable on the 2-Channel.

The standard kit is the TranSport Electrotherapy Accessory Kit: a channel 1 leadwire, a channel 2 leadwire, 2.75 in. round disposable electrodes and the user manual on CD-ROM. The battery pack, the Intelect TranSport carry bag and the grey cart adapter are sold separately. Dura-Stick Plus self-adhesive electrodes are the reorder, in five sizes, and the 2 in. round pairs with this unit.

Yes, through the grey cart adapter, a separate part that mates the unit to the Vectra Genisys therapy cart. The optional therapy cart integrates with the unit to maximize storage of clinical supplies.
