Jugs BP1 Softball Pitching Machine

The Jugs BP1 Softball Pitching Machine is a single-wheel softball pitching machine built for serious training, with speeds from 15-70 mph and a digital readout that shows the exact velocity. It throws risers, fastballs and drops at game-appropriate underhand angles, from a release point that mimics the downward plane of a live pitcher. That 55 mph spread lets one machine cover a first-year hitter at the bottom and a high school varsity round at the top. The steel frame breaks down for one person to carry and set up.

One wheel does the work, turning on a 16 in. non-marking pneumatic tire, and the digital readout shows the exact mph.

Power comes from a 110V AC outlet or the BLUETTI AC70P Portable Power Station. The machine ships with the 12 in. softball chute; the 11 in. chute is a separate purchase. The whole machine weighs 75 lbs. and stands 38 in. tall and 42 in. wide on its legs.

The Chute Decides the Ball

The BP1 Softball takes 11 in. or 12 in. softballs, along with JUGS LeatherLast, Sting-Free, Lite-Flite, SOFTIE and BULLDOG polyballs, and high-quality leather softballs feed as well.

Release on the Downward Plane

A fastpitch hitter times the ball off a windmill arm that releases near the pitcher's hip. The BP1 Softball's release point mimics the downward plane of a live pitcher. The legs set the profile: with two legs pointing toward second base in the high profile position the machine throws drop balls, and the low profile sends fly balls up.

A 110V AC outlet or the BLUETTI AC70P Portable Power Station runs the BP1 Softball. On wall power the 90-volt motor draws 3 amps, and an extension cord of 25 ft or less should be 3-wire 16 AWG or heavier. The AC70P is a separate purchase, and it takes practice to fields with no outlet at all.

A digital speed readout

The digital speed readout lets a coach dial in exact velocity so hitters train against the same pitch speed round after round. The value of that shows up when a session steps a hitter from 48 to 52 to 56 mph and someone has to know which number produced the good swings. Chute angle shapes the rest: level at 45 mph and above for risers, tipped slightly upward at about 25 mph for slow pitch tosses.

The mini3 Softball starts at 30 mph, and the SP3 and the BP3 Softball both start at 45. The BP1 Softball's floor is 15 mph, low enough that a first-year hitter can see the ball leave the wheel and still get the bat there, and its ceiling is the same 70 mph the Changeup Super tops out at.

Yes. The swivel base rotates 360 degrees for fly balls, pop-ups and grounders. The machine that just fed a hitting round turns on its base and starts sending fly balls to the outfield without being picked up or repositioned.

Setup takes a 1/2 in. wrench. Screw the base T-handle into the base, slide the three legs into place and hand-tighten, set the top back on the base shaft with the horizontal T-handle over the red dot, then bolt the feed chute to the rubber pad bracket.
