Theragun PRO Plus (Gen 6) Percussion Massager

The Theragun PRO Plus is the massage gun at the top of Therabody's range, a handheld device that drives a head in and out against the muscle, fast. Percussion leads at a 16mm treatment depth, the distance the head travels on each stroke. Five speeds run from 1750 to 2400 RPM. Heat, cold, vibration, light and guided breathing share the same body. There is one version of it, with no colour or size to choose, and it weighs 1650 g. Seven attachment heads ship in the box with a USB-C charging cable.

The screen is what turns six separate therapies into one thing you can actually run. An LCD screen on the body selects the speed and the therapy, and visually guided routines play on it step by step. A biometric sensor sits in the handle and takes heart rate readings on the device itself. Near infrared LED light therapy sits inside the device as well, which is light just past the red end of what the eye can see. Bluetooth connects the PRO Plus to the Therabody app for more guided routines and for control of the device.

Buying it puts a 1-year limited warranty behind the device and USB-C charging in front of it. The PRO Plus is FDA Registered, which is an establishment listing with the agency and not a review of safety or effectiveness. Key Features

One handle that carries six therapies

Percussion, heat, cold, vibration, near infrared light and guided breathwork all work from the same body and the same screen. Here is what each piece of that hardware is, and what it does when you switch it on.

16mm percussion across five speeds
The head moves 16mm in and out on every stroke, which is as deep as any Theragun goes. Five speeds sit on top of that depth: 1750, 1900, 2100, 2200 and 2400 RPM. The Prime, the Prime Plus and the 5th Gen PRO carry the same 16mm figure, so depth alone is not what sets this one apart. What sets it apart is everything built around the stroke.

An LCD screen that runs the session
The screen on the body of the device holds the speed selector and the therapy selector, and it plays step-by-step visually guided routines that are already loaded on it. Switching therapy is a selection on that screen and not a different piece of kit. Pair over Bluetooth and the Therabody app adds a wider library of routines and control of the device.

A sensor and a breathing coach in the handle
A built-in biometric sensor takes heart rate readings on the device itself, with no watch and no chest strap in the loop. Guided breathwork runs on the screen and paces your breathing in and out, and the sensor follows your heart rate through the exercise. It is the one mode on this device aimed at your head and not at your legs.

Heat, cold and vibration are attachments that lock onto the front of the device the same way a percussive head does. The heat head holds 45, 50 and 55 degrees Celsius and ships in the box. Vibration therapy runs at three settings of 47, 50 and 53 Hz and ships in the box too. The cold head holds 5, 10 and 15 degrees Celsius and is bought separately.

What each therapy actually does

Five of the six are ready the moment you open the box. Cold is the sixth and it arrives on a head you buy on its own. Each therapy works on its own, and the heat head keeps warming while the motor is still percussing, which is the pairing the Plus heads exist for.

Everything selected on one screen

Every therapy and every speed is selectable on the device itself. The LCD screen carries the speed selector, the therapy selector and the step-by-step visually guided routines that come loaded on it. Six therapies on one handle would be unusable as six separate switches, and the screen is what makes the count workable. Pairing over Bluetooth opens the Therabody app, which adds a wider library of routines and control of the device on the days you want it.

Light and temperature

How the PRO Plus handles light and temperature

The near infrared LED array is part of the device, so it is there whenever you are working through a percussive routine and there is nothing to fit first. Temperature is the opposite: it comes from heads you mount yourself. The heat head holds three set points and warms while the motor is running, so one pass covers both. The cold head is a separate purchase and holds three set points of its own at the other end of the scale. The vibration head is the quiet one, for joints and for the days a full percussive stroke is more than you want.

Seven heads and what each one is for

Seven attachment heads ship in the box: five percussive heads, plus the heat head and the vibration head. The five percussive heads run from a broad surface down to a single point, and each one has an area of the body it was shaped for. Swapping between them takes a second, and swapping a therapy takes no longer than swapping a ball, which is the practical argument for a device that carries all of them at once.

What buyers ask before they order

Nine items. The Theragun PRO Plus itself, five percussive heads (Standard Ball, Dampener, Thumb, Micro-point and Wedge), the heat therapy attachment, the vibration therapy attachment and a USB-C charging cable. That is seven attachment heads in total. The cold therapy attachment is not one of them and is bought on its own.
All five Plus percussive heads fit it, sold one at a time: Standard Ball Plus, Dampener Plus, Thumb Plus, Wedge Plus and Micro-point Plus. So do both temperature heads, the Heated Percussive Plus Attachment and the Cold Plus Attachment, which also fit the Theragun Prime Plus and the Theragun Mini Plus. The PRO Plus Charging Stand is made for this device and keeps two attachments within reach while it charges.
A rechargeable battery inside the handle, charged over the USB-C cable in the box. Average runtime is about 150 minutes, and it moves with whichever attachment is fitted, so a session that leans on a therapy head can come in shorter than one that does not. The device will not power on while it is charging, so plan the charge between sessions.
The attachment heads take the wear. Change them every 60 to 90 days, depending on how often they are used, and buy them one at a time as they go. Wipe the body and the head down after a session, keep the USB-C port clear, and let a head dry fully before you store it. The motor and the screen need nothing from you.
The stroke is 16mm, which is how far the head travels in and out. The Prime, the Prime Plus and the 5th Gen PRO carry the same 16mm figure, so depth is not what separates them. The six therapies are percussion, heat, cold, vibration, near infrared LED light and guided breathwork. Five are in the box; cold arrives on a head you buy separately.
Anyone who wants something light. At 1650 g this is the heaviest published weight in the Theragun range, and it is a lot of device to hold overhead or to pack in hand luggage, where the Theragun Mini is the better answer. If percussion is all you want, the other five therapies are money you do not need, and the Theragun Prime runs the same 16mm stroke from one button. If cold is the therapy you came for, budget for the separate attachment before you decide.

I also like the app the knows when I do a strength and/or cycling workout and then adds a post workout activity that targets the muscles used. The app videos are nice to follow and really like the pressure indicator and ability to turn the light or heat on/off. Also it’s so portable, I took it with me to Gravel Worlds Winter Endurance Race and used it afterwards making the long drive back home more relaxing.
