Theragun Relief Percussion Massager

The Theragun Relief is Therabody's simplest massage gun, a handheld device with a soft head that taps at a sore muscle on the gentlest stroke in the Theragun range: 10mm, the shortest of them all. Three speeds cycle from a single button, with LED lights marking which one you are on. It weighs 1.37 lbs and runs about 120 minutes on a USB-C charge. The Standard Ball, Dampener and Thumb heads come in the box, and it comes in Navy and Sand, identical in both. The Relief is FDA Registered and HSA/FSA Accepted, with a 1-year warranty.

A 10mm stroke is a milder thing than the 16mm the full-size Theraguns deliver, and that softness is the entire point of this device. It is the gentlest level of percussive massage in the Theragun line and the simplest set of controls in it. The head travels 10mm in and out on each pass, against 16mm on the full-size Theraguns, and the six millimetres you lose are what turns a hammer into a tap. No other Theragun is set softer. Three speeds sit on top of that stroke, so there is range inside the soft end and not one fixed intensity. Gentleness here is the whole device, not a mode you switch on.

One button does everything. It wakes the device, it steps through the three speeds in order, and holding it switches the device off again. LED indicators beside the button show which speed is running. Nothing about the device has to be configured, paired or learned before it is used.

A milder massage by design

Ten millimetres of travel is a small number next to the 16mm at the deep end of the range, and it produces a very different sensation. The head still moves fast, but it does not drive as far, so the contact feels closer to firm tapping than to a hammer. This is the gentlest level of percussive massage in the Theragun range. That makes it usable on places a 16mm device is awkward on: a forearm, a neck, the top of a foot. The Theragun Mini Plus uses the same 10mm figure in a much smaller body with heat added.

Three heads and one button

Everything on this device is reachable without instructions. A single button wakes it, steps through three speeds and turns it off, and a row of LED indicators beside the button reports which speed is running. That is the entire interface, and nothing about it changes as you get further into owning one. Three heads arrive with the device, and the four remaining classic shapes use the same mount whenever you decide you want them. Swapping a head takes about as long as reading this sentence.
