Jugs SP3 Baseball Pitching Machine

The Jugs SP3 Baseball Pitching Machine is a three-wheel pitching machine built for black-to-black accuracy, with 8 pitch types at the turn of a dial and the twist of a knob. Fastballs, split-fingers, and curves, sliders and cutters from either side all sit on the Select-A-Pitch dial. Pinpoint micro-adjustment then moves each pitch horizontally or vertically, edge to edge across home plate. Pitches leave from a realistic 64 in. delivery height that replicates a live pitcher's angle and downward plane. The Long Feed Chute comes standard to help hitters time up their swing, and speeds reach 90 mph.

Three 1/4 HP motors drive patented Grip-Tite 12 in. non-marking pneumatic tires, the machine weighs 140 lbs in cast aluminum and steel, and an LCD readout shows the pitch and blinks until the selected speed is reached. It runs on 110-volt AC or the Bluetti AC70P portable power station.

How it works

The SP3 splits a pitch into two settings: the dial decides what the ball does, and Pinpoint decides where it finishes.

Pinpoint Micro-Adjustment

Two knobs, one horizontal and one vertical, and turning them moves where the pitch arrives without changing how fast it gets there or how it breaks. The target is black-to-black accuracy: the black edges of home plate, inside corner to outside corner. A hitter can take twenty curveballs on the outside corner and then twenty on the inside, with the pitch itself unchanged. The drill shows whether a hole in a swing is about the pitch or about the location.

An LCD that confirms the pitch

The LCD screen shows the pitch selected on the dial and blinks until the wheels reach the selected speed. A coach feeding the machine knows the next ball is ready when the display stops blinking, and the hitter gets the pitch that was dialled. Speed comes from digital speed adjustment up to 90 mph.

The Select-A-Pitch dial

Fastballs, split-finger fastballs, right- and left-handed curves, sliders and cutters, all reached by turning a dial. The wheel-speed combinations for each pitch are pre-set, so nobody works out settings mid-session. The BP3 adds a ninth position for changeups; the other eight are the same family.

Location

Black to Black

Pinpoint micro-adjustment precisely adjusts pitch location horizontally or vertically for black-to-black accuracy. The black is the edge of home plate, so the SP3 runs a location drill as well as a contact drill. Turn the horizontal knob and the same curveball moves from the outside corner to the inside. Turn the vertical knob and it moves from the top of the zone to the bottom. Macro-adjustment levers on both axes make the bigger moves, and nothing about the pitch type changes; only where it finishes.

Eight pitch types sit on the dial: fastballs, split-finger fastballs, right- and left-handed curves, sliders and cutters. At 90 mph the SP3 matches the top speed of the BP3 and the BP2. Setting a pitch takes three moves: turn the Select-A-Pitch dial to the pitch, bring the speed dial to the speed you want, then fine-tune with the micro-adjustment knobs. The wheel speeds behind each pitch are already set, so the coach spends the session watching swings.
