Jugs BP1 Baseball Pitching Machine

The Jugs BP1 Baseball Pitching Machine is a single-wheel pitching machine that throws 15-70 mph, from coach-pitch speeds at the bottom to high school batting practice at the top. A digital readout shows the exact mph on every pitch. It weighs 75 lbs. and rolls on its own 16 in. pneumatic tire. One person walks it from the shed to the cage without a cart. It plugs into a 110V AC outlet. On a field with no outlet near the cage, the JUGS Complete Practice Battery Pack or a Yamaha EF2000iSv2 generator keeps it throwing.

Long straight legs set a realistic release height for baseball hitting drills, and the swivel base turns a full 360 degrees for fly balls, grounders and pop-ups. The machine accepts real baseballs along with Sting-Free, Lite-Flite, SOFTIE, JUGS Pearl and BULLDOG training balls, plus tennis balls. Add the optional carousel feeder and the BP1 delivers balls on its own. A pitcher's screen goes in front of the machine, and the Protector Series L-Shaped Screen is built to protect the person feeding a pitching machine.

How it works

A single wheel on a 16 in. pneumatic tire throws every pitch, and a heavy-duty steel frame with weather-resistant components stands up to repeated daily use.

Power from an outlet, battery or generator
The BP1 runs on a 110V AC outlet, the JUGS Complete Practice Battery Pack or the Yamaha EF2000iSv2 generator. On a field with no outlet, the battery pack or the EF2000iSv2 generator keeps the machine throwing. Both are separate items, sold on their own.

A 16 in. pneumatic tire
One wheel throws the pitch, and on the BP1 that wheel carries a 16 in. pneumatic tire that delivers consistent spin and pitch accuracy. Non-marking is the part that matters indoors, where a marking tire leaves a black stripe across a cage floor. The same tire is the transport wheel: the machine tips onto it and rolls.

At 75 lbs., the BP1 needs no cart and no second coach. Grasp the two back legs, tip the machine onto its pneumatic tire and roll it as you would a wheelbarrow, then set the legs down where the session starts. Indoors, the non-marking tire leaves the cage floor clean on the way in.

Speed range

Speed set on a digital readout

A 55 mph spread from the slowest setting to the fastest lets one machine serve a pitching-machine league and a high school program out of the same shed. At the bottom the BP1 throws slow enough for a hitter who has never faced a machine. At the top it throws 70 mph, where the BP1 and the Changeup Baseball top out; the three-wheel SP3 and BP3 go to 90. Pitches arrive in close to the same place each time, so a hitter can groove a swing against a repeatable ball. Set the tire to 16 to 17 psi for baseballs or 25 psi for tennis balls, and use the chute angle for height: tipped toward home plate for a lower pitch, away for a higher one.
