Infrared & Red Light Sauna

The Hot Box Sauna XL

The XL is the two-person Hot Box, and it is 17.5 inches wider than the Standard at 48 inches across. That extra width is what turns a single seat into a bench for two, and the 57-inch interior length is what lets one person lie down for the session.

It still runs on a wall outlet. 120V at 60Hz, 15 amps, 1600 watts at maximum, reaching 220ยฐF โ€” so the wider cabin does not bring a 220V circuit with it. The Hot Box's claim for that is specific: they say they are the only sauna achieving traditional temperatures on standard household power. No electrician, no foundation, no structure permit, and about ten minutes to assemble.

Version 7

Four Hundred Extra Watts And Nowhere To Waste Them

The XL heats a cabin roughly twice the floor area of the Standard on 400 more watts, all of it still inside a 15-amp limit. That arithmetic is why the V7 changes are mostly about heat retention.

๐Ÿชต
Roof Panel Heat Reflection
Stainless steel heat reflectors backed by wool insulation sit in the upgraded roof panel, pushing heat back down into the cabin and raising its R-value. On the larger of the two models this is the change that matters most, and The Hot Box credits it with V7's 30% faster preheat and higher peak temperature.
30% Faster Preheat
โ™จ๏ธ
Heater 4.0, 1600W
The XL runs the same fourth-generation heater at a higher ceiling: 1600 watts against the Standard's 1200. The V7 housing is more open, which The Hot Box says maximizes heat and infrared delivery, with an internal Faraday cage covering safety. Heater assembly and bulbs ship with the sauna.
Internal Faraday Cage
๐Ÿ”’
High-Temp Lid Gasket
A high-temperature gasket seals the lid shut, which is where consistent cabin temperature comes from once the sauna is up to heat. The lid itself rides on an aluminium V-track and trolley that The Hot Box describes as butter-smooth with lifetime reliability.
Aluminium V-Track
๐Ÿ”Œ
10-Foot 12-Gauge Cord
A 10-foot American-made 12-gauge power cord ships with the sauna. The Hot Box specifies that gauge and length to deliver full power to the heater and to remove the need for an extension cord, which is the usual source of voltage drop on a 15-amp appliance.

Interior Length

Fifty-Seven Inches Is Enough To Stop Sitting Up

The XL interior runs 57 inches long, 45 inches wide and 45 inches high. That length is the practical difference between the two models: it lets a single occupant stretch out for the session, and The Hot Box rates the cabin for one person up to 6'8", five inches taller than the Standard allows.

Forty-Eight Inches Across Makes It A Bench

The XL is 48 inches wide against the Standard's 30.5, and 45 inches of that is interior. The Hot Box rates it for two people. A shared sauna is a different proposition from a solo one. Sessions become something two people do together, which changes how often the cabin actually gets used.

Heater 4.0

Sixteen Hundred Watts Inside A Fifteen-Amp Limit

The XL takes the heater to 1600 watts, up from 1200 on the Standard, while the circuit stays at 120V and 15 amps. Heater 4.0's V7 revision opened the housing up, which The Hot Box says maximizes heat and infrared reaching the occupant, with an internal Faraday cage handling safety. The assembly and bulbs are included, so there is no heater to specify.

A 420 Pound Sauna That Fits Through A Doorway

A 60 by 48 inch cabin will not go through most interior doors assembled. The XL does not have to: it breaks down into flat panels in 10 to 15 minutes and rebuilds on a custom rail system in about ten. That is what makes a two-person sauna viable in a basement, a spare room upstairs, or a house you plan to leave.

  • Reassembles on the custom rail system
  • No foundation and no permanent installation

The Hot Box Lineup

Two Sizes, One Wall Outlet

Both models hit 220ยฐF on 120V and 15 amps, both flat-pack, and both ship with the heater assembly, bulbs and WiFi adaptor. What separates them is how many people get in and whether you can lie down. The XL is the two-person cabin.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The Hot Box rates it for two people, or one person up to 6'8". Interior width is 45 inches across a 57-inch length, which is what makes the second seat work. If you only ever plan to use it alone and you are under 6'3", the Standard covers that for a smaller footprint.
The interior is 57 inches long, and The Hot Box's own photography shows a single occupant lying full length on the bench. At 4 feet 9 inches of interior length it is not a full-height lie-flat for a tall adult, so treat it as room to stretch out. The Standard's 50-inch interior does not offer this at all.
No. The XL runs on 120V at 60Hz, 15 amps, 1600 watts maximum โ€” a standard household outlet, same as the Standard model. The extra 400 watts over the Standard stays inside the same 15-amp limit. A 10-foot 12-gauge American-made cord ships with it so no extension cord is needed. Give it a circuit it does not share with another heavy draw.
The Hot Box rates it at 220ยฐF, and describes itself as the only sauna achieving traditional temperatures on standard household power. V7 brought a 30% faster preheat and a higher maximum temperature than the previous version, attributed to the reworked roof panel and heater, on the same wattage.
Exterior is 60" long ร— 48" wide ร— 48" high. Interior is 57" long ร— 45" wide ร— 45" high. Assembled weight is 420 lbs. Plan the room around the exterior figure, but measure your doorways against the flat panels, since it is built in place.
None of the three. The Hot Box quantifies what that saves: $3,000 to $5,000 for an electrician to install a 220V line, $1,000 to $3,000 for a foundation, and $500 or more for a structure permit. The sauna plugs into an existing outlet, sits on the floor, and is not a permanent structure.
About 10 minutes to assemble and 10 to 15 minutes to break down, on a custom rail system. There is no foundation to pour and no fixed installation, so assembly is the entire setup job.
Assembled, probably not โ€” which is why it arrives flat-packed and is built in the room. The panels go in individually and the cabin assembles on its rail system in about ten minutes. The same works in reverse for moving house or freeing up the floor space.
Every sauna ships with the heater assembly, bulbs and a WiFi adaptor, plus the 10-foot 12-gauge power cord. No separate heater to choose or buy.
The Hot Box lists it as infrared and red light, reaching what they describe as traditional temperatures at 220ยฐF. Both come from the same heater unit and the bulbs are included. Replacement infrared bulbs are available separately.
It ships with every sauna as standard, listed alongside the heater assembly and bulbs. For exactly what the app controls and which platforms it supports, ask us before ordering โ€” we would rather confirm that with the builder than guess at feature detail here.
V7 is the current build, reached after The Hot Box delivered more than 300 saunas. Eight changes: 30% faster preheat and a higher maximum temperature; Heater 4.0 with an internal Faraday cage and a more open housing; an upgraded roof panel with stainless steel heat reflectors and wool insulation for a higher R-value; an aluminium V-track and trolley for the lid; a high-temperature lid gasket; a 10-foot American-made 12-gauge power cord; revised structural methods; and fade-resistant stainless steel logos.
Currently 3 to 4 months for the XL. The Hot Box builds in small batches from their Reno workshop, and they are direct about seasonality: lead times roughly triple the closer it gets to winter. Order well ahead if you want it for the cold months.
In Reno, Nevada, in small batches, following a recent workshop expansion. The power cord is specified as American-made.
The Hot Box does not publish an indoor or outdoor rating, so we will not claim one. A sauna cover is offered as an accessory and The Hot Box also sells an outdoor shower, which suggests outdoor placement is contemplated. Ask us before planning an outdoor install and we will confirm the requirements with the builder.
Two options are specified with the sauna: a window, and the Custom Sauna Mantra, which engraves up to 40 characters of your own text into the wood. Both are set at order. Separate accessories include a back rest, a sauna cover, a 100% hemp cushion, a thermometer, replacement infrared bulbs and an outdoor shower.
The sauna ships flat-packed, at 420 lbs assembled weight. Because The Hot Box is a new brand for us, contact us before ordering and we will confirm the current freight arrangement, transit time and what the carrier will and will not do at your address. We would sooner confirm those details than quote terms that may not apply to this builder.
The Hot Box does not publish warranty terms on the product page, so we are not going to state any here. Contact us for the current written warranty and return terms before ordering. The one durability claim they make is on the lid mechanism, where the aluminium V-track and trolley are described as having lifetime reliability.
The Hot Box points buyers to more than 90 five-star Google reviews alongside customer photos and testimonials, across a run of over 300 saunas and seven versions of the design.
