Radial pressure waves, generated ballistically. A compressor drives a projectile down a guiding tube inside the FALCON handpiece, the projectile strikes the back of the transmitter head, and the head passes the pressure wave into whatever it is held against. Transmitter heads cross over between the two machines, but handpieces and their internals stay on the machine they were built for.

Three terms run at once: three years (36 months) on the control device from the date of original consumer purchase; two years or three million shocks on the handpiece, whichever occurs first, valid only where the handpiece is revised every one million shocks; and one year or one million shocks on shock transmitters. The 7 in. 800 x 480 pixel colour capacitive touch screen carries the on-board protocol library alongside that, with its anatomical and pathological views and its transmitter guidance, so the settings and the record sit on the same console. The portable Intelect Mobile 2 RPW carries neither route, which is one of the working differences between the two radial machines.

The limits that govern a session: offer the patient hearing protection before each use; do not apply more than 300 shocks to the same spot; interrupt therapy after a maximum of 6000 pulses to let the transmitter cool; the surface of the transmitter can reach 47 deg C and extended skin contact can cause minor burns; do not trigger pulses unless the transmitter is in contact with the treatment zone.
