Chattanooga Intelect RPW 2 - Shockwave Therapy System (Open Box)

The Chattanooga Intelect RPW 2 - Shockwave Therapy System is a radial shockwave therapy system that brings radial pressure wave technology to the treatment room on its own trolley. The ergonomic FALCON handpiece runs 0.3 to 5.0 bar in 0.1 bar steps at 1 to 21 Hz. A high-resolution touch screen holds the clinical protocols library, and 21 interchangeable transmitter attachments match the head to the patient. This unit is sold open box: the carton has been opened, and the hardware and specification are those of a new RPW 2. The three-year control device warranty runs from the date of original consumer purchase, for the original purchaser.

Treatment data leaves the console over Bluetooth or on the USB drive in the kit, and the Intelect Connect App moves patient data to a PC for reports.

The machine

How it works

A compressor drives a projectile through the FALCON handpiece into a transmitter head on the skin, and the console sets every value from one screen.

Pressure in 0.1 bar steps
Compressed air output is 0.3 to 5.0 bar with a 0.1 bar power increment, in single pulse or continuous mode. Pulse width is approximately 6 to 12 ms and amplitude approximately 2 mm at 3 bar, idling and without coupling.
0.3-5.0 bar
The ergonomic FALCON handpiece
The FALCON fires at 1 to 21 Hz and carries Comfort Mode, an automatic energy ramp up at the start of a treatment for a smoother, more comfortable session.
1-21 Hz
The V-ACTOR HF option
The optional V-ACTOR HF vibration handpiece runs 1 to 50 Hz on the same console, taking the V10, V25 and V40 transmitters for vibration work.
1-50 Hz
Clinical library on a 7 in. screen
The 7 in. colour capacitive touch screen carries the protocol library, with visual anatomical references, treatment guidelines and recommended transmitter guidance for each treatment.

Key features

The RPW 2 is built for orthopedic work on surface and deeper tissue, with a transmitter head matched to each treatment.

Muscle pain and tissue activation
Radial pressure waves help ease muscle pain and discomfort, temporarily increase blood flow and activate connective tissue in orthopedic work.
Interchangeable transmitters
Of the 21 interchangeable transmitter attachments for the RPW 2, nine D-ACTOR heads also fit the Mobile 2 RPW. Each is chosen by diameter and depth of penetration.
Gel coupling
Water-based deionised ultrasonic gel couples the transmitter to the skin, supplied as Conductor transmission gel in 8.5 oz (250 ml) bottles.
Service life of five years
The control device holds a minimum service life of five years of normal usage with proper maintenance.

How to use it

Console and handpiece

A session from screen to skin

Pressure, frequency and mode are set on the 7 in. screen, and the FALCON then fires the session through the head on the skin, single pulse or continuous. The trolley carries the gel cup, the transmitter tray and the water reservoir alongside the console.

  • 0.3 to 5.0 bar, 0.1 bar increments, single pulse or continuous

Fitment

Heads and service parts

Transmitters are wear items, chosen by diameter and depth of penetration. Nine D-ACTOR family heads fit the FALCON, and all nine also fit the Intelect Mobile 2 RPW, so a clinic running both machines keeps one set of heads. The FALCON itself, its revision kit, the water reservoir, the Pro Elite kit and the V-ACTOR HF set are RPW 2 parts.

How it compares

The RPW 2 and the Mobile 2 RPW are both radial and metered in bar, and the Intelect Focus is focused and electromagnetic, metered in mJ/mm2. The new-condition RPW 2 is the same hardware as this unit.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Through the FALCON handpiece. A compressor drives a projectile against the back of the transmitter head, and the head passes a radial pressure wave into the tissue it touches, metered in bar from 0.3 to 5.0.

No. It is the same Intelect RPW 2, and every specification is identical: 0.3 to 5.0 bar in 0.1 bar increments, 1 to 21 Hz on the FALCON handpiece, a 7 in. 800 x 480 pixel touch screen and 120 VAC at 350 VA.

The device must not be used where there is brain or spinal column in the treatment area; any body part during pregnancy; direct application over cancerous tumors or malignant lesions; polyneuropathy areas, particularly in diabetic patients; treatment within six weeks of a local cortisone injection; haemophilia, thrombosis, deep vein thrombosis or coagulation disorders; a patient taking anticoagulants; neoplastic tissues or space-occupying lesions; reduced thermal sensitivity unless a physician is notified; or proximity to large vessels, the spinal column or the head, the face excepted.

Three terms: three years (36 months) on the control device from the date of original consumer purchase; two years or three million shocks on the FALCON handpiece, whichever occurs first, valid only in case proper revision of the handpiece is performed every 1 million shocks; and one year or one million shocks on shock transmitters, whichever occurs first.

The RPW 2 standard kit is Conductor transmission gel 250 ml, the Ro40 Beam transmitter at 15 mm, the D20-S transmitter at 20 mm, the Revision Kit Falcon Handpiece Short Shaft, the power cord and the USB drive. The V-ACTOR HF vibration handpiece set is sold separately.

The intended users are physical therapists, occupational therapists, athletic trainers, chiropractors, osteopaths, podiatrists and medical doctors. The operator sets bar and Hz on the 7 in. touch screen, fits the transmitter to the FALCON handpiece, and offers the patient hearing protection before each use.

The Revision Kit Falcon Handpiece, Short Shaft first, because the handpiece warranty depends on revision every million shocks. After that, transmitter heads: they are wear items covered for one year or one million shocks, and the set of nine holds every face from the 6 mm A6 point to the 35 mm D35-S in one case.

If they are D-ACTOR family heads, yes. All nine D-ACTOR heads pair with both the Intelect RPW 2 and the Intelect Mobile 2 RPW, because they share the same screw fitting. Handpieces stay with their machine: the FALCON belongs to the RPW 2 and the R-SW set to the Mobile 2.

The device weighs 64 lb (29 kg) on its own and 72 lb (32 kg) in the standard configuration with one handset, on a trolley 16.15 x 16.54 x 43.31 in., or 420 x 410 x 1140 mm. Power is 120 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz, 350 VA, with two T6.3A H 250V fuses. Trolley safe working load is 5 kg (11 lb), enough for gel and a transmitter tray on the shelf.
