Hotter. Colder. Smarter. Stronger.

Hyperice X 2 Shoulder Wrap

Shoulders are the joint people most often ice at night and warm before training, which usually means owning two things. The Hyperice X 2 Shoulder is a fully electronic contrast therapy device that does both from one wrap, with an OLED display on the front for choosing which.

Heat runs five levels from 105°F to 121°F. Cold runs five levels from 60°F down to 40°F. Air compression runs five levels from 80 to 160 mmHg. The wrap weighs 2.5 lbs, uses a one size fits most design that works on either shoulder, and holds 1.5 hours on maximum heat or 1 hour on maximum cold before it needs the 12V charger, which it can also run from directly.

Key Features

Hyperice's own five feature headings, with the published numbers attached to each. Where a figure is absent from the specification sheet, this page says so.

🌡
Targeted Thermal Therapy
Five heat levels at 105°F (40°C), 109°F (42°C), 113°F (45°C), 117°F (47°C) and 121°F (49°C). Five cold levels at 60°F (15°C), 55°F (12°C), 50°F (10°C), 45°F (7°C) and 40°F (4°C). Hyperice's page states the wrap switches between hot and cold in seconds, and names no cooling mechanism at all.
10 defined steps
🚫
Built-In Compression
80, 100, 120, 140 and 160 mmHg. On a shoulder, compression is also what stops the wrap from sagging off a slope, so the pressure setting is doing double duty as the fit. Hyperice's stated purpose for it is to push the temperature deeper into the tissue.

🖥
All-In-One Control
An OLED display on the device itself. Hot, cold, contrast and compression are all selected from that screen, which is the practical difference between reading a setting and counting button presses. The Hyperice X 2 Knee, otherwise the same machine, is not described with an OLED screen in its specification.

🔋
Upgraded Battery Performance
Hyperice states 34% more capacity than the generation before, and gives the run time at both extremes: 1.5 hours on maximum heat, 1 hour on maximum cold, longer on lower settings. It runs cord-free or plugged into the wall, so a long rehab session is not limited by the battery.

Why It Matters

What A Shoulder Actually Needs From This

Fitting a device to a shoulder is harder than fitting one to a knee: the joint slopes, it rotates, and there is nothing above it to hang from. These are the specifications that answer that.

In The Box

The Wrap And Its Charger, Nothing Else

A short list, and deliberately so: everything that generates heat, cold and pressure is inside the wrap. There is no control unit on the floor and no hose running to it.

  • Hyperice X 2 Shoulder wrap
  • 12V wall charger and AC cable
  • Weight: 2.5 lbs / 1.1 kgs, the complete device
  • No strap extenders are listed for the Shoulder; the X 2 Knee is the one that includes them
  • Hyperice publishes no dimensions, no materials list and no charge time for the X 2
12V charger Self-contained 2.5 lbs

One Size Fits Most, Either Shoulder

No handed versions, no size to choose, and no second unit if the other shoulder is the one that goes next. Hyperice describes the X 2 as having improved design and materials for a better fit; it does not specify what those materials are.

  • Usability: can be used on both left and right sides
  • One size fits most design, with no numeric circumference range published
  • Compression tightens the wrap as the pressure level rises, which sets the fit
  • Hyperice claims improved comfort and durability without naming the materials involved
  • Everything sits on the shoulder itself, with no separate unit to place nearby

The Screen

Reading The Setting Off An OLED Display

Fifteen settings across three scales is more than a row of indicator lights can communicate. The OLED screen puts the current mode and level in front of you, which matters when the wrap is on your shoulder and you are working by feel.

  • Heat Levels: 105°F / 40°C, 109°F / 42°C, 113°F / 45°C, 117°F / 47°C, 121°F / 49°C
  • Cold Levels: 60°F / 15°C, 55°F / 12°C, 50°F / 10°C, 45°F / 7°C, 40°F / 4°C
  • Compression Levels: 80 mmHg, 100 mmHg, 120 mmHg, 140 mmHg, 160 mmHg
  • Battery Life: 1.5 hours on max heat settings, 1 hour on max cold settings, longer on lower settings

The Hyperice X Family

Same Engine, Different Joint, Different Generation

Two of these four are the current X 2 generation and publish matching heat, cold, compression, weight and battery figures. The other two are the first-generation Hyperice X, for which Hyperice publishes no current specification sheet, so no figure on this page applies to them.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Alternating hot and cold on the same area. Hyperice's own description credits the practice with stimulating blood flow and supporting recovery, and its copy attributes swelling reduction to the cold phase and muscle relaxation to the heat phase. Those are the brand's claims, and they sit outside its measurements. The measurable part is that this one wrap holds five heat settings and five cold settings and moves between them, per Hyperice, in seconds.
It is the control surface for the whole device. Hyperice states that you switch between hot, cold and contrast therapy and select compression directly from the OLED display on the device. With three scales of five levels each, a screen is the difference between knowing you are on cold level 3 and guessing at it.
Five levels: 60°F / 15°C, 55°F / 12°C, 50°F / 10°C, 45°F / 7°C and 40°F / 4°C. There is no gel pack and no reservoir; the cold is produced by the device itself, though Hyperice does not name the method it uses to do so.
Five levels: 105°F / 40°C, 109°F / 42°C, 113°F / 45°C, 117°F / 47°C and 121°F / 49°C. Together with the cold scale that gives an 81°F span from one end of the device's range to the other.
Five, spaced evenly: 80, 100, 120, 140 and 160 mmHg. On the shoulder the pressure level also determines how firmly the wrap sits, so it doubles as the fit control.
Hyperice describes it as a one size fits most design that can be used on both left and right sides, so there is no size or side to select. No circumference range in inches is published, which means there is no chart to measure against beforehand. The X 2 Knee is the wrap in this family that ships with strap extenders; the Shoulder does not list them.
1.5 hours on max heat settings and 1 hour on max cold settings, longer on lower settings. Hyperice also states the X 2 carries 34% more battery capacity than the generation before it. No charge time is published.
Yes. Hyperice states the X 2 can be used cord-free on the move or plugged into the wall for extended rehab sessions. The 12V wall charger and AC cable come in the box, which makes a session longer than the battery a question of where you sit.
2.5 lbs / 1.1 kgs, which is the entire device. The thermal unit, the compression pump and the battery are all in the wrap, so nothing sits on the floor and nothing tethers you to it.
Hyperice publishes no contrast cycle length, no session timer and no auto shut-off for the X 2. The page states only that it moves between hot and cold in seconds. Work from the instructions supplied with the device.
No. The OLED display runs the device on its own. Hyperice lists Bluetooth® connection to the Hyperice App to customize settings under Accessibility as an option, and does not specify what the app adds beyond the on-device controls.
Hyperice lists the X 2 as TSA friendly and the Recovery For Athletes listing describes it under Travel as TSA approved for carry-on. It holds an internal battery, so check the current airline rules for lithium-battery devices before you pack it.
Hyperice lists the X 2 as FSA/HSA eligible under Insurance Coverage. Approval of any individual claim rests with your plan administrator.
The published heat, cold, compression, battery and weight figures are identical, because it is the same engine in a different shell. The differences are the shell and the controls: this one is cut for the shoulder, is described as one size fits most, and is operated from an OLED display. The Knee is cut for the knee and includes 2 strap extenders in the box.
They are separate products a generation apart. Every number on this page belongs to the X 2, and Hyperice no longer publishes a specification sheet for the first-generation Hyperice X Shoulder, so none of these temperatures, pressures or run times can be assumed to apply to it.

Almost perfect

"Works well, first use and shoulder pain subsided. Need to continue normal use to get maximum exposure but my only caveat is that it really is designed for more muscular individuals. The area around the shoulder and neck does not conform well well enough to average individuals or to women. The device needs to be more flexible and conforming to all users. That's why I can't give it a 5-star rating."
