Jugs Carousel Feeder

The Carousel Feeder is one product sold in eight versions, and the version you need is decided by the machine already in your shed. Jugs builds a separate Carousel Feeder for the BP1 group, for the SP3 and BP3 Baseball, for the SP3 and BP3 Softball, for the BP2 Baseball, for the mini3 Baseball, for the mini3 Softball, and a Combo Carousel Feeder for the combo machines. What every version does is the same. A Lexan drum holds 36 baseballs or 18 softballs and releases a ball every 6 seconds, so the person in the cage is the only person at practice. The frame is heavy-duty steel, the legs carry multi-point adjustments for height and angle, and the feeder runs on 110-volt AC. Jugs does not publish a weight, a dimension or a per-version capacity for the Carousel Feeder, and this page does not invent any of them.

Three Things to Check Before You Order

First, the model. Jugs prints it on the machine: BP1, BP2, SP3, BP3, mini3, MVP, PS50 or Changeup. Second, baseball or softball. Several option names carry a machine twice, once with a baseball build and once with a softball build, and the two are different feeders. Third, combo or not. If your machine throws both baseballs and softballs, the Combo Carousel Feeder is the version you want, with one exception Jugs states plainly: it does not fit the 2 Wheel Combo. Bring those three answers to the option list and only one line will match.

Thirty-Six Baseballs, One Every Six Seconds

A full baseball drum is 36 balls, and at the published interval of one ball every 6 seconds that is 3 minutes 36 seconds of pitching before anyone touches the feeder again. A softball drum is 18 balls, which works out to 1 minute 48 seconds. Those run times are arithmetic on Jugs' two published figures, not a manufacturer specification. What they buy you is a round long enough to finish without a break, which is the whole reason a coach adds a feeder to a machine that is already working.

Regulation Practice Balls, by Circumference

Jugs names the balls this drum takes by circumference. On the softball side, 11 in. or 12 in. circumference regulation weight JUGS Practice Softballs. On the baseball side, 9 in. circumference regulation JUGS Practice Baseballs. That is a different rule from the one on the two Lite-Flite feeders, which take Lite-Flite balls only and nothing else. If you are choosing between a Carousel Feeder and a Lite-Flite feeder, the ball your program already buys is usually the deciding fact.
