InBody 270 Body Composition Analyzer, Refurbished

The InBody 270 Body Composition Analyzer is a refurbished unit, the least expensive way into a professional InBody platform and the same eight point tactile electrode device clinics bought new, at well under what a new analyzer costs. Expect the odd cosmetic blemish or minor scratch on the housing, and expect the measurement side to work the way it always did. One thing worth knowing before you order: this is our refurbishment. InBody doesn't run a certified-pre-owned program on its professional analyzers, so the work and the description here are ours, and quantities are limited to the units we have on hand.

On measurement the InBody 270 is the shortest rung of the five analyzers we stock. It sends two frequencies, 20 kHz and 100 kHz, through each of five body segments for ten impedance measurements, in a test that takes 15 seconds, over a 10 to 250 kg range. It reports weight, total body water, lean body mass, body fat mass, skeletal muscle mass, percent body fat, segmental lean analysis, body composition history, lean body mass control, basal metabolic rate, visceral fat level, an InBody Score, a skeletal muscle index with its history, and an impedance graph. Phase angle is the one output it leaves off the sheet, which is the clearest reason a buyer steps up to the InBody 270S, and the 270S adds a third frequency and five more measurements along with it.

Where the data goes

Wi-Fi Carries the Test Off the Device

A test on the InBody 270 takes 15 seconds, and what happens to the result afterwards decides whether an analyzer earns its floor space in a working clinic. On this device that means a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth link into InBody's database software, an internal store of up to 100,000 results, and a printer at the end of the chain.

📡
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
The InBody 270 carries Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with one caveat that matters more on a used unit than a new one: a given 270 may not be Bluetooth-enabled. Ask us before you order and we will confirm the connectivity on the exact unit you are buying, which is a question we would rather answer up front than after delivery. The Wi-Fi link is what carries a completed test off the device with nobody keying numbers into a spreadsheet.
Ask about Bluetooth
LookinBody Web
LookinBody Web is InBody's cloud database, and completed tests save to it automatically so a result opens from any machine signed in to the account. For a facility that tests the same clients month after month, that is where the Body Composition History output becomes usable, because the device holds the results and the cloud keeps them reachable from the front desk, the training floor or a laptop at home.

💻
LookinBody 120
LookinBody 120 is the desktop half of the same system, installed on a computer at the facility, and the InBody 270 works with it and with LookinBody Web. The device also holds results on board, up to 100,000 of them when a member ID is entered on each test, so a dropped network connection costs you nothing on the day. Entering that ID at the start of every test is what keeps a client's history stitched together.
100,000 results held
🖨
Printing the Result Sheet
The InBody 270 prints to Laser or Inkjet printers at PCL3 or above and to SPL, and the legacy InBody 230/270 Thermal Printer still pairs with it. InBody 270 result sheets are still stocked as well, which is worth knowing on a discontinued analyzer: the consumables have not gone out of supply with the device, so the page you hand a client at the end of a session is a reorder and not a hunt.

A Lean Figure for Each Arm and Each Leg

Measurement

Two Frequencies, Ten Readings, Fifteen Seconds

Bioelectrical impedance analysis sends a small alternating current through the body and measures the opposition it meets on the way. The InBody 270 sends 20 kHz and 100 kHz through each of five body segments, the right arm, the left arm, the trunk, the right leg and the left leg, and two frequencies across five segments is ten impedance measurements in a 15 second test, the fastest of the five analyzers here. Two frequencies is one more than a single-frequency consumer scale carries, and the eight point tactile hand and foot arrangement is the same layout the InBody 270S uses, with the frequency count as the difference passing through it.

  • Frequencies 20 and 100 kHz
  • 10 impedance measurements across five body segments
  • Test duration 15 seconds
  • Weight range 10 to 250 kg, height range 95 to 220 cm
  • Age range 3 to 150 years

Segmental Lean Analysis, and Where Phase Angle Sits

The InBody 270 reports body composition analysis, muscle and fat analysis, segmental lean analysis, body composition history, lean body mass control, basal metabolic rate, visceral fat level, an InBody Score, a skeletal muscle index with its history, and an impedance graph. Segmental lean analysis is the part a trainer uses most, because it gives a lean figure for each arm, each leg and the trunk separately. Blood pressure values can join the sheet when a compatible InBody blood pressure device is paired with the analyzer. Phase angle is absent here, along with intracellular water, extracellular water, the ECW/TBW ratio, dry lean mass and segmental fat analysis; the InBody 270S adds Whole Body Phase Angle on a third frequency, and the InBody 580 reports phase angle for all five segments.

  • Segmental lean analysis across the five body segments
  • Body composition history, InBody Score, basal metabolic rate, visceral fat level
  • Skeletal muscle index with history, and an impedance graph
  • Blood pressure data only with a compatible InBody blood pressure device
  • Phase angle sits on the InBody 270S, the InBody 380 and the InBody 580

Five Professional InBody Analyzers

All five run multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis across five body segments, and they separate on how many frequencies they send and how many readings come back. The InBody 580 sits at the top of the ladder with four frequencies and twenty impedance measurements, and the refurbished InBody 270 at the bottom with two frequencies and ten.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

You are buying a professional-grade InBody 270 that has been through our refurbishment and is sold as a refurbished unit, at well under the price of a new analyzer. Cosmetic blemishes or minor scratches on the housing are normal on a used device and worth expecting. InBody doesn't run a certified-pre-owned program on its professional analyzers, so the refurbishment and the warranty are ours to stand behind. Quantities are limited to the units in stock.
No. Phase angle is absent from the InBody 270's outputs. The InBody 270S adds Whole Body Phase Angle, the InBody 380 reports Whole Body Phase Angle and an ECW Ratio-Phase Angle entry, and the InBody 580 reports Segmental Phase Angle for all five body segments. If phase angle is on your required list, this is the wrong device, and we would rather you knew that here than after delivery.
Four differences. Frequencies: 20 and 100 kHz on the 270, 20, 50 and 100 kHz on the 270S. Impedance measurements: 10 against 15. Test duration: 15 seconds against about 30 seconds. Phase angle: absent on the 270, Whole Body Phase Angle on the 270S. The 270S also measures from 2 kg where the 270 starts at 10 kg, and weighs 13.4 kg against the 270's 14.02 kg on an almost identical footprint.
Not from InBody USA. Its analyzer line-up is the InBody 270S, 380, 580, 770S, 970S and BWA 2.0S, and the 270S took the 270's place in it. Refurbished is the route to a 270 now. InBody USA still stocks InBody 270 Result Sheets and the InBody 230/270 Thermal Printer as legacy consumables, so a 270 in service today stays supplied.
Two frequencies, 20 kHz and 100 kHz, taken at each of five body segments for 10 impedance measurements, the lowest count of the five analyzers compared here. Frequencies multiply by segments, so every frequency a device carries is worth five more readings. The InBody 270S, 380 and 570 take 15 measurements; the InBody 580 takes 20.
15 seconds, the fastest test of the five, because fewer frequencies mean fewer readings to take. The InBody 270S, 380 and 580 are timed at about 30 seconds and the InBody 570 at about 50 seconds. On a busy screening day that 15 second figure is the one that decides how many people you get through in an hour.
Weight 10 to 250 kg (22 to 551 lb), height 95 to 220 cm, age 3 to 150 years. The 10 kg floor is shared with the InBody 570; the InBody 270S measures from 2 kg and the InBody 380 and 580 from 5 kg, so a caseload with small children is better served by one of those.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both on the InBody 270's specification, with the caveat that a given unit may not be Bluetooth-enabled, and that applies to new and refurbished units alike. Ask us to confirm the connectivity on the specific unit before you order if Bluetooth is part of your setup, because we can check the actual unit going in the box.
LookinBody 120, the desktop application, and LookinBody Web, InBody's cloud database. Tests save to the cloud automatically and open from any machine with account access. The device itself holds up to 100,000 results when a member ID is entered on each test, which is also what ties a client's Body Composition History together across visits.
355.7 mm (W) x 795 mm (L) x 995.7 mm (H), roughly 14.0 in. x 31.3 in. x 39.2 in., with an equipment weight of 14.02 kg (30.9 lb). Allow 14 in. of width and 32 in. of length on a level floor, with a standard outlet within reach and room in front for a client to step on and off. That footprint is within a few hundred grams and a few millimetres of the InBody 270S.
Yes. InBody 270 Result Sheets and the InBody 230/270 Thermal Printer are both current items, and the device prints to Laser or Inkjet printers at PCL3 or above and to SPL. On a discontinued analyzer, consumable supply is the question buyers ask first, and here the answer is straightforward.
A consumer scale reads foot to foot through the legs and works out the rest of the body from that. The InBody 270 is an eight point tactile electrode analyzer: two contacts on each hand, two on each foot, with the current electrodes separated from the voltage electrodes, and it measures the right arm, left arm, trunk, right leg and left leg one at a time. Every value on the sheet is built from impedance measured on the person standing there, with no empirical estimations drawn from age, sex, ethnicity or body type.
